We need to compile a friendly " Never Trump" list of ECons , McCainiacs , BoehnerBots and Lindsays who will be really PISSED OFF at this Court's many Conservative decisions. We must remember how deeply traumatic all these Conservative decisions are likely to be for our Kasich - adoring Conservative, Inc. Tru Cons.

Much like Obamacare replacement , after years of running against all these Prog policies and issues, they are likely to be lethargic and extremely luke- warm about the Conservative decisions a Trump -induced ( he's not even a Conservative!!!!) Court is likely to decide on.

Remember to be gentle. After a year of railing on the "Orange Idiot" from cocktail parties on his Right, they are likely to find all these Conservative decisions very disconcerting. All that Conservative Originalist interpretation of Constitutional Law as a direct result of Trump will surely create some serious cognitive dissonance. They may even regret that they strengthened Hillary by sitting out the election or writing in " Anybody but Trump" on their ballot.

Anyhow be gentle. They are likely to be deeply conflicted about how somebody so orange, so déclassé, could usher in such an era of Excellent Court decisions.

GOP controls the Senate.

Why does Trump still have over 100 unapproved judicial nominees?

There's your answer.

I guess we find out the answer to this question;

Does The Deep State extend to The Supreme Court of The United States ?

My expectation is “yes” and that we will see weird rulings out of Roberts to justify what they want.

Every other person running for the Republican nomination would be doing a better job right now as President. Every other person running for the Republican nomination would have nominated a Conservative (maybe Gorsuch himself) if they would have won the Presidency.

I'm not sure what your point it.

You do realize that you can be Republican, Conservative, and anti-Trump right?

I enjoy the fact that Establishment Republicans have moved the goalpost from "He has no shot at winning you fricktard!" to #NeverTrump! to "We will get him at the Convention" to hugging it out with David Frum and David Brooks over chai at the racquet club to just acting like a Conservative Scotus just fell from the sky .

You guys....

I guess I'm not understanding. How has SCoTUS changed? A staunch conservative died, and Trump replaced him with a staunch but not QUITE as staunch conservative.

This. Right now, you have 3 conservatives, 2 moderates, and 4 liberals. The good thing is that Kennedy typically is very much in favor of civil liberties, so he errs on the side of freedom of the citizens against government, even when that abridges on state authority verses federal. Roberts is a business as usual republican. He’s normally conservative-ish, but when the chips are down, he cannot be relied on.

What would really help would be replacing RBG and Kennedy with two more conservatives like Gorsuch.

What has changed is we have gone from BoehnerCons warning us that Trump can't win and even if he does somehow win he's not a Conservative and he will probably nominate his sister or Judge Judy because he's actually a liberal and that's why I'm voting for some little squirrel from Utah or I refuse to vote on principle to you saying "ho hum. Conservative Court. Nothing to see here". Amazing how quickly the Establishment Repubs who obstructed Trump every step, now take these victories for granted.

Doesn't it require 60 votes to approve?

I've long since been one of the most blindly retarded Trumpkins on this board, so I'm not really sure where you are going with this. Tell me again how the ideology or positioning of SCotUS has changed? We should have this conversation again after RBG dies.

I mean, if we're talking about moving goalposts, I assume you count yourself in that category.

Considering most establishment Republicans don't support David Frum, were never #nevertrump and ended up coming through for Trump when it mattered, primarily with the hope he would come through on SCOTUS in return, which he did

What evidence, other than your personal preference, supports this? I can point to countless cases of GOPe politicians running on conservative points but then doing otherwise when in office. What makes you believe that THIS particular slate of GOP candidates would have been different?

It is an irony that escapes few Trump voters that President Kasich and several others would have only nominated a Judge who could reach the 60 vote threshold and/ or the approval of Democrats. Sometimes it takes an unprincipled Populist to drop a little Conservatism on the Republican Party.
