Now is a good time to use Griffin to be a bit contrarian

For quite some time now I have felt that we are on a very lousy Road in terms of ruining people for being stupid. Now to be fair usually my problem is when fairly unknown people get ruined
But the principle is the same. I often hear people say that freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences and that's what is known as a truism that misses the point.
Let's go back to the Dixie Chicks example to illustrate the difference in what I'm talking about. The Dixie Chicks insulted President Bush while they were country stars. Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the bulk of their fans weren't going to like their statement. Clearly pissong YOUR fans off is unwise. You can't expect people to buy product from people they don't like.
But now, we tend to have people not just content to not buy from people they dont like but to prevent others from buying from them also.
I think this paradigm can't continue in a world where everyone has am online presence and nothing ever disappears.
Eventually, i think or at least hope that people will realize it is in their own self interests to kill this monster

I am more inclined to forgive women that have offended me after they blow me. But that's just me.

I always tell people that if I boycotted every entertainer whose politics I disagreed with, I'd have an extremely boring life because I'd never be entertained.

Griffin and comedians can insult people, but if someone sends kick back they gonna get mad........

When the whole "Love trumps hate" stuff got started I never imagined the opposition would be on the path they've all taken.
Another thread about all the protesters that could be subject to jail time made me think. I use video games to cause "destruction" and can get up the next day to go to work. Some people are just too stupid to realize real world crimes have real world consequences.

In the case of the Dixie Chick's the Bush administration and RNC set up phone banks to mass call radio stations all over the country in protest, as well as rallying every supporting media outlet against them. It was disgusting.
Also: The Dixie Chicks were both right, they merely stated that they were "embarrassed" by President Bush. No decapitated head or anything remotely out of line. The response to what they said would make North Korea blemish.

What was the organization that the Bush Administration set up to call radio stations?

It was basically an Illuminati call center under guise of a federal agency.

I don't know why you felt the need to post all that
I only used their example because it happens that they to a position that was problematic for THEIR fans
Personally, i kept listening to them.
The point I'm making is simply that it's dumb to try and prevent OTHERS from doing business with people you don't like
Now. I have opinions regarding the purveyors of such approaches, but you'll note, my OP took no partisan position

Here's the quote that triggered that:
quote:
Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.”
Both Trump and Obama would laugh at that type of criticism.
Can anyone justify ANY organized response by a political party to that comment???
For the record, I don't believe W had anything to do with it. I would love to see his comment on this today.

Nope

quote:Sorry if I derailed, but I personally despise the response in that case. I don't believe that it was an organic response at all. There was a clear GOP effort, which is scary enough, joined by a populist fever that may have been natural, but not from Dixie Chicken fans.

I do agree with the rest of your post. I will try to reread and get back on track.

quote:Completely agree. The only good point made in the horrendous press conference today was about the effort by Donald Jr to promote a campaign against the book writer who sided with Kathy Griffin. That crossed the line into an attack against a person who made a really improper act to someone who has a different opinion on that act. Of course it wasn't something against Kathy Griffin, so it was strange it was used as a defense for her.
But now, we tend to have people not just content to not buy from people they dont like but to prevent others from buying from them also.

Now, in the case of Junior, I don't think it crosses the line enough for any anger, perhaps just a discussion.
I would like to think of a different example to replace the Dixie Chicks, but can't right now. Normally I just dismiss some of the silly "boycotts" like the one following Trayvon Martin where the protesters wanted to boycott Disney and the state of Florida.

Calling complete BS on this but in any case it looks exactly like the same tactics that George Soros and Media Matters use. BOTH of which you whole heartily
condemn,correct?

Who exactly organized the boycotts of their concerts?
You actually think people decided for themselves not to go???

The Dixie Chicks example is not relevant to Griffin's situation. You're talking about continuing to buy a product the DCs market. You can still download Griffin's crap from the internet off you want to.
An employer whose very existence depends on sponsorships choosing to fire someone is completely different.
Was I allowed to continue to turn on my TV on Sundays and watch and listen to Jimmy the Greek talk about NFL football on CBS? If you don't know who that was, then you have no idea how long this has been going on.
