It ends w a 24 hour news cycle and us moving onto something else in a day or two. Maybe some more sanctions, maybe even from china. Other than that nothing.

I'd wager they've had this technology for a while.
Didn't bother to use any of it until recently.
That means:
A. They respected the last administration and its probability to strike given certain parameters. So they didn't bother to show force.
B. They are testing the meddle of the stupidest president ever, and they have much more than what we're told, so when the stupidest president ever pushes the button, we're all fricked.

We don't know what design/tech they used at this point. Yield guesstimates are all over the place. NK says it was an h-bomb but they said that about the last two and it wasn't the case. It very well may be thermonuclear which is troubling but currently we don't know that.
If you mean just them having nukes in general we've known that for a long time and they've used it 5 times prior.

Remind me again which US Administration has had a show of force of a missle shown to reach targets and a possible warhead.
These things didn't just appear.
They didn't just figure out how to launch long range missiles, they didn't just create an h-bomb.
They have had this technology for awhile presumably. Cooler heads prevailed, we never let them join the club, etc.
Now, they've joined the club. MAD is a club, and it's not something I want to deal with when it comes to this small country.
I don't think they buy into MAD.
