The average American spends less than $10 paying for food stamps. Do you get this irate having to pay thousands to corporations for their "welfare"?

Where did you get this number from?

-75 billion spent yearly on the program, not including administration cost.

- 125 million Americans working 35+ hrs per week.

About $600 in cost per American full time worker, not including administration cost

I'm against both as they are detrimental to society.

There's a very easy way to decrease the use of food stamps. Rather than allow recipients just to buy whatever they want at the grocery store, have designated food depots stocked will all nutritious staples. It would be the only place food stamps were accepted. Meat, bread, fruits and vegetables, etc. only. No junk food. No soda, etc. If you want I eat poorly, you are free to do it on your own dime.

Michelle Obama is an advocate for nutritious meals. Big city libs want to tax "sugary soda." We constantly hear the the poor don't have access to nutritious food. Well, now they would. How could the left be against that plan? Healthy food on the govt dime. Win/win, right?

Water is a hell of a lot cheaper than Dr Pepper.

You need to read more of this thread before this response.

This thread has 150+ Posts. It should read like this:

1) The OP
2) this is bullshite. Food Stamps should only be able to buy fresh, nutritious food staples. The ag lobby has created a monster. If people want to get heart disease and diabetes it should be on their own dime.

3-150) I agree with the first reply

Anyone on here arguing against this is a fricking moron.

Literally could cut the SNAP spending by 10% and probably cut down the number of diabetes cases at the same time. Won't happen though it would make too much sense.

You want addresses of specific stores where I've seen the same.

LA purchase people eat better than we did growing up. I see them with 2 buggies full of the most awful, unhealthy, unfilling foods on planet earth.

Usually coke, meat, chips, fruit punch, cereal, frozen dinners, cookies, pastries, etc. maybe a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs.

Welfare should pay for milk, eggs, bread, rice, ground meat, and water.

Anything outside of that is on the person. It's not the taxpayer's job to fully support the non-taxpayer indefinitely, and spoil them with unhealthy sugary foods.

And we all know who buys coke. It's the Mexicans and Jews. Need to end those taking our jobs and spending our taxpayer money.

It is the most common thing sold in grocery stores. This should not be surprising.

quote:

For years, dozens of cities, states and medical groups have urged changes to SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, to help improve nutrition among the 43 million poorest Americans who receive food stamps. Specifically, they have called for restrictions so that food stamps cannot be used to buy junk food or sugary soft drinks.

But the food and beverage industries have spent millions opposing such measures
,

No fricking way. They wouldn't do this because it would give them negative press and people would boycott them! This is how the free market works! Econ 101 theory says it cannot be true!!!!

You go around inspecting other people's grocery carts? What the frick is wrong with you? What are you, the food police?

Spoil them? What does that even mean?

The biggest opponents in the push to pull sugary drinks from food stamps are the people manufacturing those drinks. You realize that, right?

2 or 3 liters of coke for the same price of milk.

Or you could buy a filter and drink water for the price of your water bill every year. AND you lower the amount of dental checkups you have with the fact that you don't have acidic liquids constantly on your teeth.

Drinking soda as a main water substitute = more health problems = more expensive health care = tax payer dollars from the ACA.

When you're standing in line behind them at the store waiting for them to get through 2 full buggies of stuff, you have plenty of time to see every item in there.

it's cheap. When you don't have a lot of money you end up buying cheap food. It's a vicious cycle hard to get out of. 2 or 3 liters of coke for the same price of milk.

You don't actually believe this do you?! The only answer to this is to provide vouchers that are very item specific. Food stamp recipients should be drug tested monthly and limited to basic items. Remember, the great majority of them are to stupid to raise their own kids and stay out of jail. We can't possibly expect to cut them loose with $600 in a grocery store and expect good results.
