54-45 to 52-48

Libs are whiny bitches, no surprise. The stupid thing about the nuclear option debate is people acted like you needed 60 votes to confirm a nominee. That's not the case. You only need 50 plus 1. Gorsuch was confirmed by the only requirement.

Dems have blocked or narrowly confirmed conservative nominees all throughout history. But they get their big girl panties in a bunch when something doesn't go their way.

Today's confirmation was a bigger shot across the bow than what we gave to Syria hours earlier. Now the Dems know they're up shite creek without a paddle and a world of hurt is coming. Somebody plug RGB into the life support machine. It's gonna be a long 8 years.

I agree with everything you said, but there's still a possibility that it all goes to shite over the next 3 years:

Dems take back Senate
No justices retire or die
Dems take WH in 2020.

We'd be screwed for a long time in that scenario.

Dems have almost no chance to take back senate by 2020.

In fact in 2018, the GOP majority will go to around 56-57 seats.

Exactly. I think the filibuster is very important, but both sides have misused it. To me, it's meant to give the the minority viewpoint the power to prevent something they find EXTREMELY problematic, which they cannot allow to move forward for the simple majority vote.

Conversely, they may be against something, and vote against it in the end, but it's not something that they find important enough to filibuster.

It was an important preventative measure, that like most other things, became a stupid political tool that has little to do with its purpose. Both sides should be ashamed that its come to this point, and especially that someone like Gorsuch became a pawn in their pointless political bickering.

Do you even think for a second that had the Democrats had 50 Senators in 2016 (with Biden as VP-breaker) that the Dims wouldn't have invoked the nuclear option to get Merrick Garland confirmed?

In fact, if the Dims had 50 Senators in 2016, you would never have heard the name Merrick Garland. Odumbf*ck would have nominated the most far left whackjob out there knowing that the Dims would invoke the nuclear option to get him/her confirmed.

Don't even think for a second that there would have been any other scenario.

Gorsuch should have been confirmed by a 40 vote margin. Dems really screwed the pooch on this one.

They would have absolutely have done that. They don't give a shite about the rules or decorum, they only care about winning.

They have been talking this week about Scalia's seat being a stolen seat, like it was stolen from Obama. I think if they had thought for even a second that Trump would beat hillary they would have pushed much harder for Garland. They may have even been able to convince a couple of liberal republicans to go along with it. Instead they nominated Garland just to beat republicans over the head with him. They knew he wouldn't be confirmed.

and like they (as in some of the same exact Senators) didn't warn GWB not to nominate anyone after 2006 if an opening occurred).

The ONLY reason they didn't do the same to GWB is nobody died.

Th democrats are stupid. They could have heavily supported Gorsuch and made a big political move for the next vacancy and had a better argument.
