Below is a set of quotes in which Hitler himself explains Nazism's Marxist roots. Note that Hitler even invited German Communists to join the Nazi party, saying he would welcome them. "I have learned a great deal from Marxism as I do not hesitate to admit… The whole of National Socialism is based on it… National Socialism is what Marxism might have been if it could have broken its absurd and artificial ties with a democratic order."

Antifa and the Nazi's are more closely aligned than the left will admit.

Shhh. Don't let the sheep know that the Nazis were members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party. That sounds very Bernie-esque.

This isn't aimed at you ....
But why do so many people put an apostrophe in the word Nazis?
Over the past several days, I've seen it more times than I can count.
Must be something about that particular word?

The people on this board espousing socialism everyday are unaware how closely aligned they are with Hitler. They share a lot of his socialist views.

"Both" "sides" are motivated by the same toxic philosophical foundation; Collectivism.

They are more alike than they realize, which isn't shocking, because they are mostly fricking retards.

My bad. I do know better. My English major wife would be horrified. Just went too fast and didn't proof read.

Thanks.

No problem.
Like I said, it must be something about that word; buckets of people have done it recently.
I wont tell your wife.

Do you really believe German nazism is based in marxism?

Our educational system is a stunning failure.

The saying "if we ignore history, then we're bound to repeat it"....

Step 1 of ignoring history is to act like it never happened. How? Well tearing down historical monuments is a start

Every few months we have a go at this topic, and every time it consists of internet geniuses who failed world history a couple times frantically google searching simple explanations for complex sociopolitical systems and then copy/pasting pretending to be authorities on the matter.

They very closely resemble our monthly "causes of the civil war" threads.

Carry on

And ironically, once they started gaining power, they took down monuments that they didn't like.

I'm not going to get into this debate again, but this is really not true. Of course, Nazis likewise bear no resemblance to the "right" as it pertains to the American political right either. The terms right and left, as they are used to describe opposing political factions, are relative and don't smoothly crossover from national contexts or varying political systems. In the context of Germany in the 1920's and 30's, they were absolutely right wing.

As for the quotes about National Socialism being based on Marxism, which as a student of this period I've never heard before, your source attributes them to Rauschning, who is generally considered to be a highly dubious source by historians for reasons you can research if you're interested.

National Socialism was similar to Marxism in that it was authoritarian, but the ideologies were widely in opposition to one another aside from that. A very rudimentary reading of Hitler and other leading Nazi figures will show overwhelming contempt and condemnation for Marxism and Bolshevism. There's really no confusing where the Nazis stood in this respect. They were unequivocally anti-Marxist.

Hitler did court people who were voting Communist in Germany, but that's because Communists were getting 20% and upward of the vote because people had grown desperate for radical solutions to Germany's deteriorating conditions. These people were ripe to be converted to National Socialism as they, like the Communists, were openly advocating an authoritarian and revolutionary end to Germany's democratic experiment.

Point being, comparing the Nazis to America's right/left spectrum is a fool's errand.

The Nazis were an authoritarian socialist, left-wing organization.

A lot of people are too stupid to realize the left v. right spectrum is not based on authoritarian or libertarian, it's based on economics. The nazis, and Adolf, were very much anti-capitalism. They were based on left-wing ideology. The reason they butted heads with communists was because they had a differing view of how the authoritarian structure should implement socialist policies.

A key mistake is people thinking that Marxism represents the only brand of socialism. It won out, but in Marx's lifetime, there was Fourier, Blanqui, and others who all had ideas that fell under the umbrella of socialism. I don't think we can talk about Fascism or Nazism without talking about the movements in the fin de siecle period, which is where Fascism in particular got its anti-materialist, and anti-conservative directions.

I don't buy this "Nazis were leftists" meme.

Many Leftists are openly anti-semitic. It doesn't take long to find an Antifa flyer online that is openly antisemitic, for example.
