On Wednesday night, the Alaska Dispatch News first reported that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke had phoned Murkowski and fellow Alaskan Sen. Dan Sullivan (R) following Tuesday’s vote. Zinke delivered a “troubling message,” indicating that Murkowski’s defection could jeopardize future Alaska projects, in particular those involving energy extraction, Sullivan told the paper
if Murkowski did not vote in favor of "skinny repeal".

However,
quote:

As chairwoman of both the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies, Murkowski has oversight over the Interior department and its funding. That puts her in a unique position to either advance or obstruct the administration’s energy priorities.

Alaska is among the nation’s largest producers of oil and gas, and will likely prove key to the administration’s push for “energy dominance.” If the administration were to follow through on its warning, it would likely involve reversing course on opening additional areas of the state to energy development — a move at odds with its own policies.

TLDR: Trump administration needs Alaska to fufill it goals of expanding oil and gas exploration. Defunding projects planned for Alaska would shot themselves in the foot. Murkowski is chairwoman of both the Senete committee of Energy and Natural Resoucres, Also subcommittee of the Interior. She could make Zinkes life hell if she wanted to. Move describe as "reckless and rookie" on Trump/ Zinke's part.

Tell us again who the adult in the room is and who's obstructing whom?

I would imagine the healthcare situation is not as dire in Alaska as it is in some other states. They probably have more insurers and lower premiums.

Yes, I'm sure Trump is the first President to EVER threaten to take action against a Senator/Congressman who didn't vote for one of their pet programs...

Not really.

Oil production in Alaska is currently only 500,000 BPD. The Permian can increase output by that amount no problem. Plus, production in Texas isn't in the brutal weather conditions (aka a whole lot more expensive) that Alaska has in its production areas.

But hey, nice jump to conclusion with no knowledge on what you are talking about.

Only reason she is even a senator is because of the nepotism and the good old boy network.

Data does not mean that Alaska does not have immense potential. Administration has already outlines numerous project to persue in Alaska. Albiet, I admit you have a valid point comparing current output of barrels compared to Texas.

Nope. That's not it. She just didn't buy another of McConnell's lies that the Senate should pass the "skinny" bill, and it would be "fixed" in committee. All the House had to do is pass the "skinny' bill, and it would become law.

Just like Ryan lied to the House and told them to pass their bill, and not to worry about it because then the Senate would pass a better, broader bill.

You see the pattern here?

McConnell is maybe the biggest liar in Washington. That's like saying you are the tallest member of the Tutsi tribe. No small feat.

But it's like these people can't even figure out the byzantine rules of their own organizations and see why they have to do certain things in a certain way though.

THey don't have the votes to outright just throw the ACA out , so they have to piecemeal laws together that get rid of certain segments of the bill that they think they CAN get votes for.

You watch, in 2018 the GOP battle cry will be "If we just had a bigger margin in the Senate, THEN we could repeal the ACA"

Trump is right, get rid of the filibuster and introduce a real repeal and replace bill and just run right over Democrats if they don't want to cooperate (and clearly they don't)

The Permian basin and worldwide oil pricing actually says otherwise.

She's threatening to shut off oil and gas projects in her own state to hurt Trump's energy agenda that benefits her own constituents.

She's a petulant POS. But hey what else is new for someone that never truly earned her senate seat and only got it through nepotism and good ole boy bullshite.

He might be the first to send the one cabinet member who is most vulnerable to said Senator to do his dirty work. Also chose a really odd threat that counters his own policy.
