One of the FBI's top investigators, tapped by special counsel Robert Mueller just weeks ago to help lead the probe of Russian meddling in last year's presidential election, has left Mueller’s team, sources tell ABC News.

The recent departure of FBI veteran Peter Strzok is the first known hitch in a secretive probe that by all public accounts is charging full-steam ahead. Just last week, news surfaced that Mueller's team had executed a search warrant at the Virginia home of Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. And the week before that ABC News confirmed Mueller is now using a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., to collect documents and other evidence.

quote:

It's unclear why Strzok stepped away from Mueller's team of nearly two dozen lawyers, investigators and administrative staff. Strzok, who has spent much of his law enforcement career working counterintelligence cases and has been unanimously praised by government officials who spoke with ABC News, is now working for the FBI's human resources division

And.....of course Mueller's team declined comment.

What have they proven?

All this nonsense has proven is that Trump refused to meet with foreign agents and Hillary DID meet with foreign agents.

Probably going to work for Hilldog since they just reopened the FOIA request on the Clinton Foundation.

What's illegal about the investigation that would send them to jail? If they find nothing, then drop it and move on.

At least one of them had some professional pride

And he is the actual counterintelligence expert as opposed to most of the others whose main qualification is donating to democrats

Mueller's top investigator

1. "Top investigator" is a bit misleading - Strzok was one of roughly two dozen top investigators on Mueller's team.

2. He could have been moved to the FBI HR department for any number of reasons.

ETA: I've never seen a cop show where the detective does outstanding work, and as thanks they move him to a desk job. Just sayin'.

The ACLJ just received a letter from the FBI bureaucracy informing us that it has “reopened” our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request into the clandestine meeting between former Obama Attorney General Lynch and former President Clinton while the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI were conducting a criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton. The FBI’s letter – dated one week after we publicly excoriated the FBI for lying to us when the Comey-led FBI told us last October that it had “no” records responsive to our request – now states that “records potentially responsive to your request may exist.”

That's the point of the investigation, and eventually, the release of findings.

In regards to the Trump campaign, we have evidence that one member of his campaign attempted arrange a meeting and denied, but we also have proof that Manafort, Kushner, and Jr had a meeting.

Again. I don't think meetings themselves are the primary focus of the criminal investigation, although they may be related, but we don't know enough to throw around proof at this point.

Doesn't bode well for Mueller. Its either the first rat to abandon the sinking ship, or the 'foreign aspect' of the investigation has turned up zip, and its all about 'financial' crimes

Which is not what the SC was formed to look into

Money for nothing

Well most people in the know have said there was no collusion between Trump and the Russians, so....

At what point, if they dont find anything, would you think that Mueller should be shut down? How long?

Let me guess, you would be ok with it continuing for the next 7.5 years.

DEMs will be glad when this Russian investigation is over. It hurts their "upcoming" message/agenda instead of just fighting Trump.

Last week you said it didn't bode well for Mueller regarding Manafort because the grand jury proceedings started before the recent raid, which just showed that you were completed ignorant of the basic functions and processes of a grand jury, yet were still willing to make a convenient conclusion.
