3 minute long video that gets good at 1:19. Police speech of the year if you ask me. I would hope this level of honesty can help push people down the right road.
I'm critical of the police when criticism is due but to act like police are the major threat to the African American community is asinine.

That's a pretty powerful message. Good for him.

Too bad that he'll be demonized for it. Missouri, Ferguson specifically, should hire this guy.

He shouldn't be demonized. He clearly used facts and statistics to get his message across, and demonstrated clear passion and empathy for true victims. He admitted that the police aren't saints, but showed his personal commitment to protecting and serving. And he called it like he sees it. There was nothing racist in what he said at all. I respect him tremendously.

Semo - I didn't say he should be but as posted above I knew he would be.

It's more alarming when the enforcers of our laws and Justice system seemingly disregard the life of its constituents.
When the law doesn't protect its own, anarchy and evil elements of our society will wreck havoc.

Lawlessness is systematic and it trickles down...how can we expect lawfulness if the beacons and safeguards of it violate it and don't legislate or issue it fairly themselves ?
Systematic distrusts for the police force is solely rooted in their mistreated of those communities. All I see is finger pointing by them. they should expect more from themselves

The police are but the leading edge of a criminal code and enforcement system that is way too powerful and punitive. e.g. No way, no how should ANYONE ever be put in prison for possessing small amounts of drugs. Then add on the fact that blacks are prosecuted for these crimes out of any sensible or rational proportion to their commission of them vs the population at large.
Anyone who is paying attention should care about the issue of prosecutorial abuse in this country - and it doesn't just affect poor blacks.

It's not a cop's choice on which laws to enforce. When you have a community that doesn't value education and hard work but glorifies violence and gang mentality they will be routine guests in prison. The officer made a great point that some people magically overlook and that is why all these people clamoring for cops head from black communities don't say a damn thing when blacks kill blacks. Where's the black rage against black on black violence? Here's a little fact I once saw. In the history of this country 4997 blacks were lynched. Go read FBI Uniform Crime Reports and see how many blacks kill other blacks. It's double that number every year.

Moreso than the residents themselves?
Let me ask you... Are cops killing 10+ people per weekend in Chicago?
Are cops killing little girls sitting on their front porch?
See what I'm getting at?
The problem isn't cop. It's pieces of shite that have no regard for human life to "keep it real".

I'm for ending the War on Drugs(tm) - it has gotten way out of line and too many people have gotten rich off of it.

Meh. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I think that marijuana enforcement has lightened up everywhere, even in the deep south. The problem is - they get riled up about a guy with a record who keeps making mistakes - so often, a single non-drug offense snowballs into a string of minor drug offenses and the guy looks worse on paper than he actually it - but I've seen this phenomenon with whites, too - particularly with grass.
And meth is breaking your race paradigm, Big Scrub - big time - I almost never see blacks in meth lab busts, and only occasionally in busts for possession with intent. Meth has been the "growth" industry of the drug law enforcers for almost 2 decades.

That *boom!* was on the level of Cassidy's Twitter response to Mary's "#WhereWasBill?".

That sounds like a great police chief and an even better man! New Orleans could use a guy like him!
