British Government Denies Compensation To Children Who Were Sexually Abused Because They 'Consented'

quote:

Roughly 700 children as young as 12 who were sexually abused have been refused compensation by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority in Great Britain since 2012; roughly 30 were denied compensation because it was deemed that they “consented.”

quote:

One girl who was raped and sexually assaulted by a gang of older men when she was 14 was denied compensation by CICA on the grounds that “she had not been the victim of non-consensual sexual acts.” In another case, a 12-year-old girl was refused compensation after being sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old man who later pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, because she had gone into the woods "voluntarily."

That's pretty disturbing to say the least but I think our laws on the other side of the coin are stupid as well.

There's no way in hell a 16 year old young man getting a blowjob from a hot teacher is "rape" or "sexual assault" you know he was consenting his arse off.

We have hyper-sexualized society while at the same time passed ultra-conservative laws concerning some of these acts.

People enjoy taking drugs so that makes it ok to break the law there too, eh dumbass? It doesn't matter if a 16 y/o boy consents, its illegal. Hard concept to grasp, I know.

this is fair to do, age of consent is purely cultural

historically it has been low to mid-teens but it's been creeping up since the 1950's
and it's not because we are becoming a more moral society

But I bet you think it is rape or sexual assault if a 16 year old girl is being pounded by her 40 year old teacher

There's not, it's just another pernicious application of left wing policy

This is one shining example of why it was so important to get a solid replacement for Scalia

As a former high school teacher, all I can say is this comment is idiotic. Why don't you go talk to a psychologist and they'll tell you just how damaging this is.

It's also a straw man argument that perpetuates the idea that women are somehow more sexually innocent than men and should be punished less which always happens in these cases.

I knew a woman who I worked with while I taught high school who had an affair with a 16 year old boy she taught. Let me tell you, it was pretty damaging to the boy, his family, her husband, and her two young sons.

Aside from the trauma to her family (that is a separate issue) how was it damaging to the 16 year old boy? Is he only interested in MILFs after this? Did she do things that high school girls don't do, and now he has a fetish that can't be satisfied?

If such a big deal wasn't made of it, maybe the 16 year old could have walked away from it and become president of France.

For some reason, I'm thinking that boys would be less *damaged* than girls. Just a feeling, but solidly there. Not all boys - or girls for that matter - are the same psychologically. Some are more 'ready'...others innocent minded and open to 'damage'. Of course, double standards re Law is highly problematic.

I wonder if the 'damages' had anything to do with $.

wait, what?

i'm quite positive that there is not some overriding connection to these assaults

this is just a government bureaucracy with a budget pinching pennies

i think people are just not understanding the story (and i'm not defending the decision, more pointing out that this is more sensationalism than reality).

first, the UK has a government bureaucracy that pays compensation to victims of sexual assault. we have nothing like this in the US as a comparison i do not think. certainly not on the federal level like this program is

second, like with any program, there are going to be regs and procedures and the agency is going to have a certain budget. this means they're going to have to make budget-conscious decisions. that's just how government works. this example is just a weird one b/c this whole agency is a weird concept from the get go

in the original article it states, "Around 700 children have been refused compensation by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority since 2012". now that's a large number but it doesn't give context. what % is 700 over 4 years? further, later in the article it says, "It is understood that around 30 refusals had been made on the basis of consent. " so what the frick constituted the denial of the other 670? the original statement implied consent, too.

i'm not saying this is right, but the original article clearly was written to be sensationalist. the DW picked it up and made it more sensationalist. what i'm saying is both of these articles were constructed to get a reaction and not provide real data, and until we have the real data, we should hold our outrage

The Left is somewhat consistent.

Only white people can be racist.

Muslims can't rape whites because whites are the majority. Even if she's 13, unless she fought, she "consented".

Evil, evil shite.
