McCarthism and "White Nationalists"

I havent been keeping up but I keep hearing "white nationalist" this and "white supremacy" that. But then I see people not in disguise (hoods) or in Nazi garb. I find it strange that all the "KKK" members would expose themselves and risk their jobs or safety to come out of the racist closet, if you will.
Why does it all seem to be a propaganda piece, like if you have ANY overlapping conservative belief you are labeled a white supremacist. Similar to the 50's, if you believed in one social program you were a "Commi Bastard", and should be deported because "you dont belong here".
Are we in re middle of the "Right Scare"? People who don't want statues ripped down can only be White/right supremacists?
