Newly minted Secretary of Defense James Mattis celebrated his first full day at the Pentagon by overseeing 31 strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Mattis entered the Pentagon Saturday with a smile for his first full day of work, and for good reason, considering the significant bombardment ISIS forces received.

A variety of fighters, bombers and remotely piloted aircraft engaged in the bombing run, which saw 25 strikes in Syria and six in Iraq. In Syria, two strikes destroyed ISIS units and artillery near the town of Bab. ISIS forces in Raqqa, the terrorist group’s de facto capital, took a heavy beating, as 22 strikes destroyed 12 tactical units, nine fighting positions, two underground improvised explosive bomb factories and an ISIS headquarters. The final strike targeted two ISIS oil wells in Deir ez Zour.

Wait how do we know where bomb making facilities are, and if we do why are we just bombing them?

Do you have a better alternative in mind that is worth the risk?

Hit the ground running. Nice!

From a tactical position, does he pretty much give the greenlight to these OP's or is he also involved in the planning? Walking into a brand new job, you'd think he's still learning exactly where those Isis tPOS exactly are.

Unless we just learned of their existence, why weren't they bombed before?

I had the honor of briefly meeting General Mattis a couple times while in the military. He really is an intimidating mofo. He says what he means and he absolutely means what he says.

Yep.. I seem to remember Ron Paul saying that early on and people calling him a kook. It's like Iran has just been a distraction, although I do believe the world needs to unite and ensure they don't develop nuclear weapon capabilities.

To be fair, this pace of airstrikes is about on par with what it's been recently before Trump took office.

We need to see 100+ airstrikes per day and loosening of the ridiculous ROE where it takes 15 minutes to get approval to engage a target.
