Attorney is claiming the indictment should be quashed and the case tossed out because the candidate Matassa bribed was not properly qualified (Lawson had previous campaign debts). Therefor, since Lawson was not a proper candidate, it wasn't a crime to bribe him to stay out of the race. All of this, despite the fact that Lawson was on the ballot on election day and received 40% of the vote.

Are you f&%king kidding me!?

It's time for this little man to do some time for the crime.
Obviously, he has some powerful connections to drag this thing along for so long. Ya'll really need to drain the swamp in Ascension Parish.

well, i mean everyone is entitled to a defense via the federal and state constitutions. there is more to the process than making big claims and a motion to quash. even if he wins the motion, there are appellate levels to sort it out

also, if this defense ultimately wins, then what occurred was not illegal. blame the bad law and the stupid lawmakers (i know i know, many are lawyers, too, but they weren't acting as lawyers when they wrote the bad law) for not creating a law to make what Matassa did, illegal

I sat on a jury and the defendant had hired Unglesby to represent them. By the end of the week many on the panel hated the guy.

I wouldn't recommend the man to anyone I liked.

Unglesby is easily one of the best criminal defense lawyers in the state

It was just the outlandish nature of the claim. They're not even denying they bribed him, just that it didn't count. It's pretty funny to me.
