On a statement of candidacy Landrieu filed with the Federal Election Commission in January, she listed her Capitol Hill home as her address. But when qualifying for the ballot in Louisiana last week, she listed the family’s raised-basement home here on South Prieur Street.

The New Orleans house, which Landrieu claims as her primary residence, is a new flash point in one of the most closely contested Senate races in the country. Republicans are considering taking legal action to question Landrieu’s residency in the state, arguing that since winning her seat in 1996 she has become a creature of Washington.

There is no way that she will not be allowed to run but it could definitely hurt her in the upcoming election.

I'll confidently go on the record and state that ridiculous and petty party politics like this are incredibly transparent, turn off more moderate voters than they influence, and will wind up having a boomerang effect on the GOP if they actually try to make this an issue.

Yes, but it'll probably work.

Let me get this straight, because the office Landrieu is running for, US Senator representing Louisiana, requires her to spend extended periods of time in the nation's capital, someone wants to question her Louisiana residency?

If something like this is enough to make you vote for Mary, you are not making an informed decision. The point, however petty, is that she has drifted away from the Louisiana mainstream and become more of a Washington. D.C. person in thought and attitude. Will it make a difference? I think not, but it plays into the GOP narrative. (That she is really not like us.) Why didn't she think before putting some other address on the federal paperwork?

If Landrieu is as awful as LA Republicans say she is then why would you need to practice such crappy politics? Run on the true issues and beat her straight up.

Pretty much. Sure it's petty but politically it works.

If I were doing a Cassidy ad it would start with her using her DC address as her primary residence and use that to play on the theme of ads already running-Mary identifies more with the DC crowd than the folks in Louisiana.

Mary or her husband does not own a home residence in Louisiana??????

That's pretty pathetic... Not saying it shouldn't qualify her but pathetic.

Unfortunately stupid stuff gets headlines.

Mary could vote for Obamacare every day for the next 2 months and no one would care.

But if she screws up a campaign report and charges her campaign to the people or writes down the wrong address more people notice.

Like I said it's silly, but just like Bridgegate or Tomatoe and Tomato; it works.

If Mary Landrieu files tax returns as a Louisiana resident, which I'd be willing to bet she does, then she will be able to claim Louisiana residency despite her primary address being in Washington, D.C. This may upset and confuse some voters, which is what I think the Republicans are trying to accomplish, but I doubt it will cause any issues with her being on the ballot in 2014. I agree with you that this is really just a political maneuver.

I agree but it will be useful for illustrating how "out of touch" she is.

Kind of like indicting a sitting governor for doing governor stuff?

Yes, and I think that my criticism of the Democrats on that Rick Perry thread was one of my first posts on TD.

When you google image "Miss Piggy Louisiana" ... images of Mary come up.

So ... IMO ... that should pretty much settle it.

I agree. But the Dems lowered the bar significantly when it went apoplectic and ruined the political career of a man because he spelled potato wrong.

And none of this matters anyway because Anne Romney owns a horse.
