I am just curious as to why all of the votes haven't been counted by now? Think of the state of the US at this moment if this were a popular vote election...

The vote counting is normally finalized 2 weeks after the election. There are an estimated 9 million or so votes that have yet to be counted. By the time they are all counted, I expect to see that Trump has outperformed Romney. In addition, some are predicting that Trump my surpass Hillary for the popular vote also.
