quote:

Tyson wrote in his column [in the Bayou Brief] that Delgado's "gangbangers" reference also should have been met with community outcry. Tyson said "gangbangers" and "thugs" are both racist, pejorative terms for black men that demean them as unworthy of justice.

"His comments reflect deeply racist thinking about black youth and approaches to education in black communities," Tyson wrote. “These terms are invoked frequently to demean those advocating for accountability and transparency in policing. As a voice for the city’s Union of Police, Delgado’s cavalier deployment of this language is especially disturbing as the city attempts to rebuild trust between black communities and the police

Nothing but a race-baiting shill.

He's a good teacher (albeit kinda boring) and generally keeps the race stuff outside of the classroom. I've taken his class, so I can speak from personal experience. As long as he keeps it outside of the classroom, it doesn't bother me. I don't agree with it, but he is entitled to his opinion.

He doesn't want public office. He makes more money as a law professor than he would in office, and he is already heavily involved in the BR mayor's office (for good or bad). He'd be taking a paycut to start out lower on the political totem pole.

I doubt he is financially driven. Law professors don't make very much money. He would make a lot more in private practice. Not saying he wants public office...just saying if what he cares about is income, he wouldn't be a professor.

He is making about 120K per year not including all of the benefits. Not too bad.

Not bad for a Cush job, for sure. Still, it is much much less than he could make in private practice. My only point was that saying he wouldn't run for office because of money doesn't make much sense.

I took 3 of his classes, and this is absolutely false. He's a really nice guy, but all he did was read from a script everyday. His exams were very simple, and if you wanted to actually learn the material you had to teach yourself everything.

Then why did he just run for Secretary of State? He knew he wouldn't win that race, but he was definitely setting himself up for a future race.

On July 29, Delgado screenshot and posted Rose's comments and questioned his contract with BRAVE. A Facebook spat ensued among Delgado, Rose and others, with Delgado eventually posting in a response: "so he should get paid $7600 for teaching a four week poetry course to young gangbangers? I don't think so."

This isn't playing on race?

There are much worse teachers at LSU Law. I said that he's boring, but I took notes and did really well in his class because of what he said in class. Why would you take 3 of his classes if he sucked?

I also didn't realize he ran for secretary of state. I'm wrong about him not wanting political office based on that alone

Of course he is entitled to his opinion; however, if spewing his opinion reflects badly on the university, he should keep it to himself or deal with the consequences.
