quote:

"The terrible thing that the Americans have to realize is that all the intervention, everything they tried to do has been totally wasted," said Canon Andrew White, the "Vicar of Baghdad," choking back tears. "Nothing has been achieved." White is the Anglican pastor of St. George's Church in Baghdad. Conditions in the country have deteriorated so badly that White's church forbids him from returning to Iraq. "It's worse now than under Saddam (Hussein)," he says. White deems the Islamic State's actions "one of the worst persecutions of Christians in history."

It's an epic tragedy.

It hasn't just started with ISIS, though. The Muslim Brotherhood were literally crucifying Christians in Egypt.

Let me stop, though. Anything more, and I'll be accused of being Islamophobic.

As opposed to all the jews, hindus and opposing Islamic sects being persecuted?

Why do Christians ALWAYS feel like they have to monopolize persecution and oppression?

One shouldn't be labeled anything for simply relaying facts.

The man quoted in the article is a Christian Pastor so of course he is speaking about Christian persecution. This doesn't discount or diminish the persecution of other groups. Are you insinuating that Christians aren't being persecuted there?

By definition, a phobia is a fear of something that is out of proportion to the actual threat.

If you are a Christian, hindu, jew or kurd in Iraq right now, I would argue that it is impossible to be phobic of the Muslims in power because the threat is so real.

My question however is why Christians inevitably only focus on Christian persecution, ignoring the fact that they are just as willing to oppress and murder other groups.

Have you ever posted an article about the persecution of other groups in the middle east?

They can have Tom Cruise.

Not the Fresh Prince, though.

A Shia mosque in Baghdad was bombed yesterday by ISIS. Dozens killed.

The last known Jew in Iraq fled in 2006. The current estimate is literally in single digits.

Similarly, most Christians have left. There just aren't very many left to persecute. Persecution of Kurds, Turks, and Shiites is the huge problem.

Probably not, but how is that relevant? All of us post topics that we are interested in or have some significance to us.

I want all people groups to be free. But forgive if I have a heightened interest in my brothers and sisters in Christ. It's like asking you why you talk and know so much about A&M when there are lots of college teams out there. Worshiping the same God brings a good bit of kinship. Seems to me that you're just not really crazy about Christianity and are jumping at an opportunity to nit pick.

Just a phenomenon I've noticed over the years. Other faiths and belief systems don't seem to revel in being the victims quite as much as Christianity does. The nature of the religion itself, and it's central act by Jesus, predisposes to that sort thinking I suppose. The legend of the early church is essentially rooted in persecution by the Roman empire.

Additionally, the Bible essentially says that if you aren't "hated by the world" and suffering in some manner for your faith, you aren't doing it right.

All I heard during the Israeli / Palestine conflict was the innocent deaths if 1800 people.

Obama pulling the troops out of Iraq against his advisors recomendations has killed many, many more thousands.

Really? No one cries victimhood like Christians? Give me a break. I do believe that it is idiotic for American Christians to scream persecution when someone like Phil Robertson gets suspended from his tv show. But the OP is speaking of a true case of persecution. I just find it odd that you called him out on such a ridiculous thing as not mentioning all persecuted groups of the region. You got an axe to grind.
