What civil war battle did Columbus lead, I can't recall?

Liberals are so triggered by dead white guys.

Here's the video.

Liberals, you've reached the level of ISIS in destroying historical monuments because of your ideology.

Congrats.

One would ask, when will us reg'lar folk start wondering, "isn't this shite getting out of hand?", but unless they are internet dweebs like us, they'll probably never know this happened.

Can you provide a CNN link to verify the story as accurate?

White guy that opened the (ETA: European) flood gates I guess. Led to a wealthy and diverse country with equality for all citizens protected under the law, the right to freedom of speech, the right to bear arms and protect ones own family and property.

We should all be pissed Columbus made the journey west apparently. We could have stayed in Europe and been conquered by the nazis, African Americans could have stayed in Africa and be enjoying poverty and civil wars, and North America should be the beacon of civilization that is central and South America right now

Liberals are trying to destroy America. Anything that "represents racism" is just an easy place to start.

Didn't he "discover" the Americas in 1492 leading to European colonization and migration?

That's why he's celebrated right? So demonizing him is demonizing our existence on this continent

All this monument nonsense is a bit absurd. But, to be fair, Christopher Columbus really didn't do all that much to/for/in America aside from being one of the last "explorers" to land near here, misidentify the area as being part of Asia, and spread STDs.

It's a little mind boggling that he has statues in the first place. I mean, Leif Erikson beat him to North America by like 500 years.

There were debates over it when I was in high school in the late 80's.

There have been hate campaigns of all sorts over the years. You've ID'd one. There is no inevitability of outcome stemming from ignorance or hate. None.

When some of these anti-intellectual ISIS-wannabes can formulate a cogent argument as to why a work of art, a monument to Columbus, should be attacked, defaced and/or torn down, then we can talk about outcome. They are no where near that point. Until then, there is no inevitability.

I have no attachment to Columbus statues, but do you really not see the difference? European colonization and migration was the result of a Columbus convincing the Spanish crown to find a new route to Asia. He hit the americas instead and the rest is history

For better or worse he changed the planet forever. History would look a lot different today had it gone any other way. Whether it was colonization starting 100 years later, colonization by a different culture, or no colonization at all
