Liberals are morons

okay, Im going to rant and then leave.
So this only sony thing naturally is a topic of discussion on facebook. One of the people I befriend moons ago because I enjoyed her photography was going on and on about what a giant "nuclear" threat North Korea is. How they had ballistic missile capabilities blah blah blah.
I pointed out that they were mostly a regional threat and not much of one at that anymore.
Off to the races...then the thread smashed it's way into how we were basically terrorist because we nuked two "civilian" cities during world war 2 and how the japanese were trying to surrender. (and we used nukes on gasp...hospitals!)
Again I pointed out how wrong that was and was attacked with my lack of sources. Who needs to source historical fact.
I am a subject matter expert on World War 2, specially the Pacific War. I have forgotten more about the topic then most people know.
I am the fricking source.
Chickie didn't like that and blocked me.

My question is...does anyone actually consider wikipedia a serious source? I know I sure as hell don't considering that anyone can edit there.
Yet that is what led to my ...ahem...banning :P

I've linked to government or academic sources that have been given less credence than Wikipedia, because people had to actually read the source for context rather than bullet points. People don't like to be forced to think.

With some things, it's credible and with other things it's not. I like the check the sourced material from the references before making use of it in an argument to back my beliefs.
Anyone that doesn't know that Japan was completely militarized during WW2 and that for the Allies to make landfall would have meant a street-to-street battle against every man, woman and child... well, they are just a special kind of idiot.

yeah, I agree...the body count would've been astronomically higher and it would've included a shite load of American lives (sorry, but in war you're not overly concerned with not killing your enemy)

Oh I know.
Reading an actual book is a lost fricking art.
Wikipedia on it's best day is a good place to go when you are looking for additional references. But to use that as a primary source, should get you laughed out of most centers of real journalism.

Well yeah.
The Japanese were frankly worse then the Nazis...just very few people understand the nature of their empire in the 30s and 40s. Pointing out to this chick just led to eye rolls. I am fairly certain she has never read anything on the subject longer then a facebook post...but it floored me to see just how little she knew or understood about what total war actually meant. Applying 21st century morals to what was a complete and total war. Stupid.

I've learned my lesson from Facebook arguments. There is no convincing anyone of anything. No one comes to that argument to listen.
So I chose the route of unfollowing anyone that espouses dumb ideas. It is not the same as defriending and they never know about it. Least painful way to simplify your life.
