Embattled IRS official Lois Lerner will not testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee unless she’s given immunity from prosecution, her lawyer told POLITICO Tuesday.
“They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way … immunity,” William W. Taylor III said in a phone interview. “That’s the way to resolve all of this.”
The comments reflect the hard-line approach Lerner, the former head of the IRS division that scrutinized conservative groups, and her legal team are taking in defending her role in the agency’s scandal.
then give her immunity so we can see where this directive originated from.
I mean, if I refused to testify in criminal proceedings, " FU your honor, give me immunity from my crimes and I'll testify", what would happen to me?
you wouldn't have to testify. the prosecutor might strike a deal with you if they think you'll give them a bigger fish. If you didn't get the deal you'd have all the evidence they have used against you but you don't have to go up and testify against yourself.
"I am innocent - I broke no law - I broke no statue - I did nothing wrong" = "I will not tell you more because I may incriminate myself" = "I want immunity from prosecution."
Sounds about right to me.
Nothing to see here - move on - It's all Issa's fault.
A clear message to us lowly American subjects from our Bureaucratic Overlords that they don't believe they answer to us.
