Hopefully this is just Sen. Kennedy stoking Cannizzaro'a ego for political purposes, and he's not going to nominate him.

I don’t live in NOLA. Why is this bad? I knew one of his family members growing up and he was a great guy (the family member).

His office is tied up in a mess where they were doing shite like sending people fake subpoenas and then locking them up with excessive bail requirements if they didn’t appear.
They were also filing various charges such as kidnapping and impersonation against the public defenders there.
Real scumbag shite.

I knew him and two of his sons.
One is a great guy, the other is a douche. Cannizaro is the kind of DA that gives DAs a bad name.
Between prosecuting public defenders on false charges to keep them out of the court room to issuing fictional subpeonas without court approval, I cant think of a worse choice for DA.

I don't know if it's so much that Leon C is a bad dude per se... I think he's just trying to clean up. But the victim/witness intimidation is absolutely insane. I don't want to live in a system where we throw people in jail who are victims and witnesses just because they won't testify.
And how the fake subpoena thing isn't completely illegal, I don't understand.
And his desire to prosecute defense attorneys who don't agree with him is chilling.
This is the US Attorney office that not all that long ago had the issues with Jan Mann and her underlings. They need someone in that office who is squeaky clean. I'm still sad that Polite was forced out... but we still need another squeaky clean person in there. Leon is not that person.

Cannizzaro takes liberties with people's liberties. He thinks nothing of placing witnesses who have committed no crime and victims in jail if they refuse to testify by using FAKE subpoenas. That's pretty bad and should have you disbarred, but Leon goes a little further in his office to give he state and extra edge.
If you are poor and cannot afford an attorney, then ou go the public defender route. Normally as a defendant that is the kiss of death, but sometimes you get a PD and his/Her group that does a really god job. Canizzarro does not like that and has tried to throw PD's and their investigators in jail for doing their jobs.... as such Leon has got to go and deserves to spend the remainder of his life in OPP since he likes it so much.
