Just to clarify; the neighborhood Seth Rich was shot in (Bloomingdale) is not a dump

The mantra from the left seems to be 'he was shot in a bad part of town!'. Let's go ahead and clear this up.

Seems like a lovely place to me. I will definitely pay this neighborhood a visit on my next trip to DC.

WaPo Article on Bloomingdale

"For a neighborhood of only about 12 square blocks, Bloomingdale manages to pack in a lot of hidden treasures: unassuming dive bars, surprise parks and award-winning restaurants. Tucked between Shaw and Eckington on the border of the District’s northwest quadrant, Bloomingdale stretches from Second Street NW to North Capitol, bordered by Florida Avenue NW to the south and Bryant and Channing places NW to the north.

And while its old-timey rowhouses help the neighborhood maintain its turn-of-the-century charm, it’s also become the home of shiny new restaurants and bars — and soon, to even more residential space."

It was apparently the first shooting there in a pretty long time.

NB4 Talking points. Why would they say it was a bad are, if it was not? Are horrible crimes only happening in poor areas?

except the neighborhood had seen a spike in robberies in recent months

that doesn't necessarily make it a "bad" neighborhood, but it also doesn't make it this wonderful safe haven with zero crime

quote:

Yes, we did see some robberies in that area in the past four weeks,” she said. “That was on the radar of the Robbery Task Force because it was a pattern in an area that we had not seen consistent robberies in before.”

According to the D.C. police crime mapping website, robberies in and around the Bloomingdale neighborhood are up 50 to 80 percent in the last two months when compared to the same time last year. And they are carried out in a variety of different ways.

To make the murder seem unsurprising?

Horrible crimes are much more frequent in poor areas...that's why poor areas are usually dumps.

Do you not find the circumstances behind his death suspicious at all?

not really

every "gotcha" can be explained away with a very plausible explanation

This definitely doesn't take away all possibility that Seth was killed in a robbery. However, he also wasn't walking around the DC version of East St Louis after midnight.

But you posted a link to robberies to prove a point about a murder.

But don't the "gotchas" eventually add up and create suspicion?

I posted a link about robberies to prove a point about crime in the neighborhood

is your point that it is impossible for an attempted robbery to turn into a murder?

Given that none of the other robberies resulted in a murder - and all of the other "gotchas" surrounding this case - it seems at least plausible this wasn't a robbery-gone-bad.

well all of the "gotchas" (like this thread) are very poor gotchas

so...
