What is the board's thoughts on the guy? I don't know much about the guy except that he's my junior high school teacher's husband. I saw his "politician party with your money" ad and he talks like a coon arse.

Not perfect, but a pretty decent conservative. Should be the easy choice for Treasurer in the runoff.

If he does a good job there, he could keep working himself up the latter to eventually be a viable candidate for governor in a decade or 2.

Admittedly I was more into football than the local elections who will he run against in the runoff?

A democrat out of New Orleans who was the only dem in the race, and did literally zero campaigning. However, turnout statewide was abysmal outside of New Orleans, which had a higher turnout due to the mayoral elections.

Do we mean John Schroder? State Rep from Covington / Madisonville?

Straight shooter ... fiscal conservative, a good choice for Treasurer.

And yes, I understand the treasurer has little to do with the budget.

If he's such a straight shooter, why would he lie about his age?

I'm a conservative. Schroder is not. This guy was one of the many Legislators who tried in 2008 to raise their own pay from $16K to $70K with automatic increases, then it went down to $37K, and finally vetoed by Jindal ONLY after the public went ballistic. From that point forward he went on a vendetta against the executive branch. He's only running for Treasurer because he's term limited. Treasurer has zero policy making authority.
