Louisiana's Medicaid expansion has reached a new milestone, with more than 400,000 people enrolled for health services through the government-financed program started in July.

JBE said this was going to cover no more than 300,000 people and that turned out to be a lie.

The program is also costing the state more money than expected because it is bringing out people who would be eligible for normal Medicaid as people see free shite and want and get free shite. Those two results were entirely predictable.

More people on medicaid expansion means that this shite is going to cost more money we don't have and then there's this.....

quote:

Enrollment in the Medicaid expansion tops estimates used in the state budget. The health department intends to ask lawmakers to add more federal spending authority into the budget to pay for the additional people.

The federal government is picking up most of the cost of the expansion program.

But the program could be threatened, as Congress looks to dismantle the federal law that authorized Medicaid expansion.

Surprise, surprise, gov't welfare actually costs more than what it was projected to be.

It doesn't get any better here as the entire program is on the chopping block as a part of Obamacare repeal. The Medicaid expansion portion of Obamacare is likely to be repealed. That will leave the state footing the bill for the entire cost of Medicaid expansion.

This is is money the state doesn’t have. The state would have to either raise taxes or cut other programs. The state already has enough economic problems and it cannot sustain another round of tax increases on business and individuals.

Bobby Jindal was right on this issue. He continually refused to expand Medicaid because he knew it would be a fiscal disaster for the state. The Legislature needs to act now to get Medicaid expansion under control and to reverse this welfare boondoggle that had no business existing in the first place.

Republicans that voted for JBE, I hope it was worth it.

Medicaid under pays for adults (I'm not talking about kids) and over requires administration thus making it a loss for providers who accept Medicaid for adults.

They should stop being poor. And no, they don't deserve the same quality care that I pay for.

When medicaid was started in the 60s, supporters were saying that it was projected to pay for itself and cover no more than a few thousand people and cost a few million.

What bullshite.

We can't afford to give poor people free healthcare. We are broke. And the feds won't be paying it forever.

Healthcare is a commodity and a scarce good. Someone has to pay for it. Louisiana is poor as shite, can only cut healthcare and education per the state constitution, only has four million people so the tax base is too small to pay for something as expensive as free healthcare.

This State is going 100mph into a brick wall. The impact comes within the next 4-5 years. I don't think there is a chance of stopping it

But JBE has 3 million dollars in the bank. Reelection will be interesting.

Did La.'s governor give the teacher's union $57,000,000 to help defray their 50% increase in their health insurance premiums? Well, our past Democrat governor Beebe did just that. Reached right on over there in the state flush fund and said "here ya go".

Hopefully, La.s governor isn't that weak and stupid.
