JBE takes tour of LSU library and says we have to come up with $2 billion for repairs

JBE took some leges through Middleton library to demonstrate the mismanagement of brick and mortar colleges and universities in Louisiana----WAIT that was not the point he was making--his point was that we needed $2 BILLION to repair buildings on campuses across the state and of course more taxes to do that.
Now the backwoods, raise the taxes, file a lawsuit, send me some contributions Governor obviously did not point out how little libraries are used or needed on college campuses these days.
Instead of saying we need to get digital copies of all the original stuff we have--we may already have this--he wants to buy concrete and steel.
EARTH TO JBE--we have too much infrastructure in brick and mortar institutions. We should be getting out of the ownership of these schools not investing more into them.

I was under the impression that LSU wanted to tear down Middleton.

Ok Honor Code JEB, I agree.
What entitlement programs are we cutting?

It appears to be repurposed as a prop for more taxes and JBE.

They need more money but at the same time he wants to cut higher education spending?

JBE
The years of Repubs cutting education and thinking people will somehow magically get smarter are over, at least for the next 7 years.

He's not wrong. The problem is that universities neglect needs like facilities and ensuring there's enough sections of classes for students and instead just pad their administrative overhead.
Middleton is abysmal. It was built shittily and has been maintained as such ever since. It needs to be dynamited along with Lockett and a new library built where Lockett currently sits.

Just raise the sales tax. That'll solve the budget woes

The idea that throwing a bunch more money at LSU results in a better educated Louisiana is laughable.
We would be better off giving student the few thousands it will take to enroll in Kaplan University, now owned and operated by the very respected Purdue University. Now that might result in a better educated population.

I have friend whose kid got accepted to LSU law a couple of years ago. In one of his first classes the prof took the kids for a tour of the law school library. He told them that would most likely be their only trip to the library because everything they actually needed was now available online and organized in a more accessible manner. He told me the kid has not been back in it.

LOL
You're delusional. Middleton is a joke; I get it LSU isn't exactly Yale, but you have to have a modern library to attract students.
Pay for Kaplan University while enrolled in Louisiana State University?
Are you high?

Then LSU needs to budget better and make better use of money they already have, not beg for more money from the state especially from a Governor who's looking for more props to get more taxes.

You're not getting another perfect storm in 2019.
That race will be about who will get the honor to gut JBE like a fish. Race for that honor is between Landry and Graves and the loser will do everything he can to help make that happen for JBE unlike Clowns like Dardenne and Angelle.

I love it. Young professionals are fleeing the state because the taxes are piling up and there is literally no return on investment yet you idiots keep bitching more money needs to be spent. Keep propping up that two faced piece of shite, and watch tons of current and future taxpayers leave for greener pastures. Have fun with a 17 percent sales tax rate, 40 cent gasoline excise tax rate, and zero citizens to actually pay it.

They are building another new dorm right now. They've already built several over the past 10 years, plus a new parking garage, major renovations to the union, and now a new upper class dorm or whatever on Nicholson. Plus the water campus. They have the money. A new library doesn't seem to be a priority for them.

Just from a master plan. The last 2 included major renovations and they didn't happen.
2 billion sounds absurd. Need, funding, all of it.

JBE wants more construction contracts to control so he can shake down vendors for campaign contributions.

There's an end game here. The more revenue from taxes and contracts for what the tax is for, the more power and discretion he has over campaign donors and legislators.
Money is control.
