ISPs can now sell your browsing history without permission, thanks to the Senate

The US Senate has voted to overturn consumer privacy laws enacted last year by the FCC. The rules, which forced internet service providers to actually get permission before selling your data, were overturned using the little-used Congressional Review Act (CRA). Assuming that this resolution passes through the House, which seems likely at this point, your broadband and wireless internet service provider will have free reign to collect and sell personal data along to third parties. That information may include (but is not limited to!) location, financial, healthcare and browsing data scraped from customers. As a result of the ruling, you can expect ISPs to begin collecting this data by default.
Excellent! I'll wait patiently for all the supposed anti-Patriot Act, anti-NSA-overreach, pro-privacy right-leaning ilk to show up and denounce this wretched move. LINK

I read this when it broke and I just had to shake my head.

Google and Facebook had an unfair advantage so the cure is to frick all of the American people?

Get all Americans focused on health insurance then pass some shite like this. It isn't going to get talked about very much with London and the health insurance vote tonight.

You better get off those kid porn and animal rape sites, or you'll be waiting patiently while the people in suits and dark shades collect up all your internet capable devises and marking them evidence.

Always made me laugh when making political calls back when I had an internship on a political campaign and some jackass on the other line would go off on me.

Little do they realize I have their address, their cell number, their household income, any and all subscriptions they are part of, what TV channels they watch most, when they vote, literally all kinds of random details about the lives. I can look at my computer screen and tell them an extremely detailed synopsis of their day to day life.

The best are the guys who you can tell have a "side ho" and are complete assholes to you over the phone, completely unaware that I the power to ruin their lives.

You can't scrub your data completely, but with a little ingenuity you can obfuscate it enough that guys like you don't have a true picture. Before I dropped my landline I would get marketing and/or political calls that were way, way off, based on false information I had deliberately put into the system over the years.

Call and voice displeasure.

Better yet, call your Repeesentative before they vote on it.

Will it matter? Not really. But it matters way more than complaining about it online.
