Suzanne Barakat begins her Ted Talk with, "three of my family members were gruesomely murdered in a hate crime. It goes without saying that it's really difficult for me to be here today. But [the murders] don't give me much of a choice. I'm hopeful that by the end of this talk, you will join me and stand up against this hate."

OH the irony. A Muslim lecturing a room full of white people on tolerance.

Youtubes

Details of the murder:
quote:

Chapel Hill police arrested their neighbor, Craig Stephen Hicks, who had shot and killed the three people in a single attack. On February 10, the Chapel Hill Police Department stated that their "preliminary investigation indicates that the crime was motivated by an ongoing neighbor dispute over parking. Hicks is cooperating with investigators." Hicks was charged with three counts of first-degree murder. On February 16, Hicks was indicted by a Durham County grand jury on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. Investigators have not ruled out any motives, including religious bias. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Department of Justice have also launched their own investigations into the shooting.

Now let's bring out the families of all the people dead, mutilated or persecuted in the name of Islam.

A phobia is formally defined as an irrational hatred or fear of something. There is nothing irrational about disliking Islam as an institution, nor the ways in which millions of Muslims behave in carrying out their religion.

BTW,most Muslims in America are usually so loosely adherent in their faith that Muslims in the Mid East wouldn't even consider them muskim

It's almost comical that Muslims act like there isn't a problem in their community.

"There is no such thing as "Islamophobia". It is entirely reasonable to fear a medieval death-cult with over a billion followers who want to take over the world and subject everyone left living to their madness.?"

Will they have Middle Eastern Christians on to talk about how Islam killed their families?

Those deaths don't count. The adherents of Islam who perpetrated those killings were obviously just responding to hate crimes and murdered in retaliation and out of peace.

Her being Islamic may make her hypocritical, but it doesn't make her wrong.

Have you familiarized yourself with the case? He wasn't charged with a hate crime, and this is after the crime was investigated as such. So what is she right about?

I was referring to her point about ending the hateful rhetoric, not necessarily the particulars of her brother's case.

Her speech is titled: Islamophobia killed my brother

There's no evidence to support that. She wants to end the "hateful" rhetoric because she says that it caused the death of her brother. You responded by saying that she may be a hypocrite but that doesn't make her wrong. I think she's a hypocrite and she's wrong.

So what is she right about?

The only time I have a phobia of Islam is when I see them on my flight

Oh I remember this now, this guy (Hicks) is a confessed atheist that had gone on social media rants against religion. When it happened, the story went away within a couple of days from mainstream coverage. IMO, if Hicks had been a Christian, this would have gotten more coverage. This trial has apparently gotten little to no coverage nationwide.
