Is Trump changing positions, or is he negotiating?

Government is give-and-take...even among one's own party. Therefore, I can forgive him giving in on some things.
Do you think Trump is giving in on his big promises, or is he coming to grips with reality and compromising in order to get the best deal?

He's not sure.

he is dealing
It is really how all of them should act to extent
our normal politicians are so scared to change course because it will be used against them. It is important to change course when facts are different.
I am not a blind follower - he is making plenty of mistakes. I just like him not being a politican that has to draw a nonsense line in sand

I think a lot of things he's said has been negotiation tactics and a lot of stuff has just been bullshite.
Mixed bag.
Maybe he was harsh on China to create leverage in negotiations. He changes his rhetoric and now they have abstained from voting in the UN, which was a huge surprise.

I think it's clear he's changing positions.

I tend to agree with this. I'm sure the presidency looks much different from the oval office than from behind a podium at a rally.

Are you referencing the WSJ piece? He's flip flopping like crazy because he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. This is what the learning curve looks like for somebody who's not in politics. Sometimes that's a good thing ("drain the swamp!" lol) but when you're forced to talk about things you don't really understand you're bound to change your mind after the fact, a lot.

He's flipped flopped more than a fish out of water.

I think his end goal will always be to obtain a solution. I don't expect him to just stop working on things if he doesn't get everything his way. I think some of his initial positions were also exaggerated to get the best deal also.
So I don't think he has necessarilly changed many of his positions. I think it is all part of the deal making with negotiation strategy and compromise to be successful.

He said the things he needed to get elected.
He is a politician, so much for draining the swamp

He isn't running anything anymore. Didn't even know about the bomb in Afghanistan.
The military and Mike Pence are running things right now. Trump just gets updates on what his new policies are.

Is Trump changing positions or is CNN just focused on reporting everything in a negative way?
CNN would have done the same for Obama, right? Gitmo is gone, correct?

He learned that everything he promised is bullshite, and only he and his voters believed it.

The reason everyone thinks he is changing his position is because our stupid politicians would rather get all or nothing regardless of the division it creates or the progress it stops.
A change in position would be coming in and having such a hard line on every issue that he wasn't trying to make a deal. The core of his candidacy was that he was going to make deals and do them with an America First motivation.

This has been the major issue with our politics all the way back to Woodrow Wilson.

The potshots he's taken on Twitter for the last 8 years have come back to bite him in the rear end a few times in the past few days.
Many people on this board are saying all of his hardline stances were just negotiating tactics, but they touted those stances all throughout the campaign, so I'm wondering if this is all just spin.
He's taken care of the SC, which is great, but he has to tackle healthcare and taxes - everything else is just fluff to me.

I think he does some of the stupid stuff, like controversial tweets, etc. to distract the media and get them on a feeding frenzy over the stupid stuff while he negotiates the serious stuff He is still playing with them like he did during the election.
