WASHINGTON, D.C. — On the same day that she became the first black woman to receive a Golden Globe nomination for best director, “Selma” filmmaker Ava DuVernay took a moment to remark on the controversial email exchange that, for some, has highlighted a dispiriting lack of progress in some of the higher echelons of Hollywood.

quote:

“I have two words: sickening and sad,” DuVernay told Variety at Thursday night’s Washington, D.C., premiere of “Selma.” “That’s really all I have to say.”

The director was referring to one of many conversations between producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal that were made public as a result of the massive Sony hack attack by Guardians of Peace, a group protesting the upcoming release of the studio’s North Korea-skewering satire “The Interview.” In the exchange in question, Pascal and Rudin traded quips about President Obama’s movie tastes — which, the two speculated, might run toward the likes of “Django Unchained,” “12 Years a Slave,” “The Butler” and the comedies of Kevin Hart.

Is it really beyond the pale for two movie execs in a private conversation to quip that Obama might actually like a movie about a black Butler in the White House, or even Kevin hart for that matter?

If this is her expectation I just find it to be unrealistic. This victim, butt hurt mentality is what ruins the entire "race" conversation for me. It's human nature to be somewhat "racist" children have to be taught otherwise. So until we can cease to be humans she will have to continue the butt hurt.

My question is -- what has Obama (or Eric Holder) ever done or said that would lead anyone to the conclusion that those wouldn't be his favorite movies?

These two racist scumbags see EVERYTHING in racist terms.

I think she's taking exception to the assumption that Obama would only like films about blacks, or films surrounding black issues. It's naive at best.

They didn't say these were the only movies he might like, it's a tiny piece of what i'm sure are thousands of emails. Obama, "this is what my son would have looked like" is a race baiting POS anyway

Well, he does seem to conceal his white half of his physical make up. As with other interracial people, he seems only proud of one color and not the other so maybe the assumption is correct.

I don't think the emails are racist at all but I do enjoy watching the monster turn on its maker.

No. If black actors had said the same type things about stiff, selfish, rich, overbearing white actors it would have been seen as "a joke" and nothing would have been said about it.

But these dumb liberals who portend to be holier than thou, deserve to be criticized.

No it's not. It is a great example of why you can't have open and honest discussions about race.

I wouldn't say sickening.

But it was colossally stupid.

Considering the majority of your posts, and your posts under your other screen name, you three have a lot in common!

By the way, why did you start posting under this screen name at the same time you stopped posting under your old screen name Newbomb Turk?

Who cares? If this is what this silly woman finds sickening she best never leave her home. Her precious sensibilities will be destroyed in mere seconds.

What this tells me is that if you want to have a little fun, make some little biased or sexy or any untoward comment, that if revealed can hurt your career or a relationship with someone, then you best pick up the telephone and talk person to person and not put it in text.

Oh, and frick DuVernay. If she going to get her panties all in a wad over this then she needs to publish all of her emails just to show that she has never written anything that would hurt someone's precious little feelings.

"Sickening" is a bit much but I can understand why people would be embarrassed to have that go public.

I'm with the guy who said watching the monster be turned on the creator is hilarious though.

Why don't you quit worrying about peoples screen names and old posts.

It shows you to be paranoid delusional.

Only in the sense that in this day and age if you're a famous or notable person it's foolish to expect your private correspondence, missives and conversations to remain private.

First of all these emails were hacked, an violation to our privacy rights! If the government would do the right thing, they should not be public info, but as you see humans of all kinds dont do the right thing! Secondly, our entertainment for society never allowed violence or nudity or threats to anyone under the old law and good one at that! Its all in the name of money, cure all for everything without any true sense!

Perhaps Obama would have preferred a typical white movie.
