The history books are full of movements and groups that seemed at first to be nothing more than a nuisance that ended up resulting in wars that killed tens of millions.

The Nazi party started with a group of malcontents engaging in bar room fights and before it was over there were tens of millions of people in their graves.

I am not saying that ISIS is going to have that result. But, Isis has the potential to be much worse considering they have over 1 billion people to draw from for recruits. Obviously, there is a small fraction of that billion that share their vision, but it will only take a fraction of that billion to cause the kind of conflict we have not seen since World War II.

Unfortunately, you only have a small amount of time to take out a group like ISIS. What makes it difficult is that it is hard to decipher whether this group or that will end up being a global or regional threat until it is too late. Isis has now developed to the point that it cannot be extinguished with small scale interventions. Whether we want to admit it or not, this is an army and it will have to be defeated by an army.
