Is there any reason for "professional" polls to exist anymore?

They have been proven to be false "science".
They should be viewed as legitimate as palm readings....

It gives "the press" something to talk about?

And as far as the science, there is some clear issues pollsters will have to deal with moving forward (technology being a major change), but save for some systematic errors in the Midwest, they were pretty accurate overall.

The average of the national polls had Clinton ahead by a little over a point. That's pretty much dead on.

Have they? Or maybe you never understood how probability works in the first place.
ETA: This is like when the weatherman gets his forecasts right 9 days out of 10, but everyone judges him by the 1 day that he gets wrong saying that he is completely unreliable and never gets anything right.

Because the only poll that matters to them is the last one. That's when they actually did they job and used legit samples.
The polls from the beginning to mid-October were made to push their agenda which was to depress and suppress Trump support. Hillary was up double digits consistently. And the samples used were a higher D skew than either of Obama's elections.

The world is not static. Information is not perfect. This shouldn't be a shocking revelation.

Information is even more imperfect when it's made under false pretenses.
