I've heard many talking heads state, as fact, that just meeting with someone from an "enemy state" is criminal.

That concept is ludicrous. This new McCarthyism has gone too far.

Does Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly mean nothing to these people?

Russia is less of enemy to us than Saudi Arabia. I don't see progressives yelling about Clinton or McCain receiving millions from them.

Russia has been fighting their own war on terror for about a decade longer than us. I think a US-Russian alliance regarding Middle East policy would be beneficial for us and the region. We are fomenting Islamic terrorism in the region by allying ourselves with the Gulf States.

No. You don't remember that the Obama administration fixed all of our differences with Russia? Re-set and ready to go.

Why didn't Trump include them in the ban then?

At the very least, they are adversarial to U.S. interests. I guarantee you that Putin sees the U. S. in those terms. The Russian Bear has never really been our friend, notwithstanding WWII.

They weren't really friendly even then.

yeah, remember the whole agreement with hitler.

Russia is an enemy. THey are not our biggest geopolitical threat, namely due to the size of their economy and how it is overly dependent on oil.

However, they are a real threat to our interests in Europe, and in the ME.

They are definitely not our friend.

Your lord and savior Obama says the 1980s called and want their foreign policy back. I guess you vehemently disagree with Obama on this? Interesting.

They haven't been our friend ever, best I can tell. Maybe in czarist days.

Both can be problematic. I don't recall the details of the missile shield, but I do think having a missile shield in E europe is a damn good idea. Although europe shoudl pay for it.

Yeah that non aggression pact was signed as a frick you to the United States (who wouldn't even enter the conflict for another 2 1/2 years) and was not done out of self preservation...

I mean it was an enemy of my enemy arrangement for survival but what the frick does the non aggression pact have to do with that?

Well, we're in the Middle East for regime change and Russia appears to be the biggest roadblock (in Syria at least).

Does that constitute and enemy state?

Not our friend does mean they are our enemy.

I consider an enemy a country like Iran, North Korea, where we are openly hostile, don't allow travel of our citizens, don't have diplomatic or banking relationships.

We have blow-ups with many countries, like Russia and China, but I don't consider either of them enemies.

Even when they were a nation state in dissolution, Reagan recognized them as the Evil Empire.
They are attacking us daily with the most sophistical cyber weapons on the planet (save, perhaps, our own).
Yes, they are an enemy state or as close as it comes to being one.
