I don't understand the debate on whether an attack is terrorism or not; however, the definition may explain.

I was under the impression that it should be called terrorism any time a subject tries to harm or create casualties on a large group of people.

By definition, terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

Is the debate in the media due to the fact that they didn't know if the motive was political?

BTW - any fricktard that it claiming racism because the white cop took this Somalian piece of shite out has totally lost their damn mind.

The media is trying to sell a narrative.

Was just watching CNN, and they were saying this raises concerns about "lone wolf" attacks. Head in the sand.

Still do not understand why people get so worked up about "lone wolf" verbiage.

CNN may be using it in a way to downplay terrorism, I didn't see what you're referencing. But "lone wolf" attacks, where a Muslim not involved in a cell or organization hears the call of ISIS on Twitter or YouTube and plans an attack in isolation, are very concerning. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Unless they can find someone he was mad at, or a definitive known neurological break, it surely looks like terrorism..

Absolutely this is what they're doing. That's why it is an issue.

I get it, but I see people reject the lone wolf stuff all the time on this board, and I just don't think it is warranted. It's a huge factor in Islamic terror we're going to face in coming years (decades probably).

For sure, but they have no proof this guy was acting alone, and whether or not he was acting alone isn't the issue.

The left doesn't want one of their pet projects/slice of the elector pie to be put in a bad light even when that light is accurate. It's one of their fatal flaws.

What? CNN was calling it terrorism last night and made numerous mentions that investigators had found evidence that he was inspired by ISIS and al-Qaeda propaganda. They discussed whether there was any evidence that he was in direct contact with ISIS or other terrorists (they said there was no evidence so far IIRC). And they had experts on saying that it was unlikely he was in contact with ISIS because of the shape ISIS is in right now, but that if that's true, it means that people don't have to be in direct contact to become radicalized and that it means there can still be lone wolf attacks indirectly tied to ISIS and that it's a big problem.

What's the issue with how CNN covered this?
