Obviously there are covert missions, but I am pretty sure you can't declare general troop deployments numbering in the thousands as top secret.
Anyone know the details on that?
At Camp LeJeune we were told to get off the streets when the Soviet satellites were over head. The S-2 officer would come down when they approached.
So.....you'd be wrong.
During World War two a whole phantom army was created. Real weddings would be announced but instead of the groom being in the Third Armored Division he would be listed as being in the 33rd Armored Division. Things like that.

I'm not going to pile on the OP.
We all have those moments where we go full potato and just can't come back from it.
It's no big deal.

Come on guys. I am collecting your positions on this. Instead of the non-committed insult posts, grow some balls and say "I absolutely support the President in running secret deep state operations with thousands of troops."
You are going to have to take your arse whipping on this one. The question is poorly framed and insanely misinformed.

Once they are in country you can announce.
The new part is we dont discuss dates and troop counts with you or fox.
We dont discuss our armament. We do.
Security is job #1.
Loose lips sink ships.
Thats fine with me.
Bringing india in is asking for it.

It was a serious question but I think people are jumping to conclusions about specifics. After looking up the AUMF for terrorism it looks like there is a blank check for Afghanistan as long as the Talib an exists in some fashion. But the general War Powers Act still requires notifications to Congress within 48 hours, although the 90 day limits don't apply.
Also, I wasn't referring to specific locations, just the act of deploying the troops under a specific authorization. In the case of the "terrorism" act the forces can be deployed as long as they were fighting something with some relation to AQ or the Taliban. With WW2 they could be deployed to fight The Axis on any front, which covered most of the planet.
Does that make more sense?

This was the gist of your question: "Is it legal for Trump to deploy troops to a "war zone" that Congress has authorized as being legal?" No doubt posed with self righteous indignation.
