Fake news was far more rampant in the past when most people had no way to fact check what they read.

He also talked about his service as a Marine. He wasn't a Marine. He flunked out of basic.

I think of him as one of the Founding Fathers of Fake News. An early trendsetter and champion of Fake News for the benefit of The People.

Plus he'd mix it in with homespun Texan lingo worthy of his highly-coveted spot on the Manhattan Tea Pary Tour. How they'd swoon on 5th Avenue when Ol' Dan would say things like "sure as an armadillo up a pine tree" while discussing how George Bush raped those nuns.

He was truly before his time.

Oops we got caught

I think Dateline NBC is in contention with their story on exploding GM pickup trucks.

Rather was bought and paid for. But we haven't had free press in a while. We only got the reporter's side of the story. With the introduction of the internet, came the possibility of the other side, right or wrong.
But think about this. When papers get bought out by studios, which get bought out by corporations, which get bought out by... All the tentacles of the octopus lead to one body. How objective can one tentacle be?

CNN had his old arse on not long ago and they were talking to him like he was a God.

This was before the election when they all thought it was fixed for the wicked Queen.

Many of the founding fathers of fake news in America are actually founding fathers of this country. The Sons of Liberty were master propagandists. People seem to forget (or are just never taught in the first place) that the movement towards independence from England wasn't exactly started off by a massive groundswell of support by the masses against the crown. It was only after the war started that the groups like the SoL were able to wing public opinion in favor of independence through both a terror campaign towards loyalists and propaganda about trumped up British atrocities.

Hell, we even went to war with Spain over fake news created by newspapers that were trying to outsell each other. We knew almost right away that the Maine wasn't blown up via sabotage but that didn't stop the major papers of the day from saying otherwise or the gov't from happily following the anger it created to have an excuse for some more territorial expansion.

Did anyone see "Truth?"

Fake News: The war between the states was initiated because of Slavery. The original Emancipation Proclamation did not free the slaves.

We entered W W I because a U-Boat sank the Lusitania. The Lusitania was carrying arms which of a violation of international law.

There were a lot of shenanigans prior to W W II as well.

He is a despicable human being. My favorite Dan Rather story is by Bernie Goldberg who asked Rather when they worked together in his honest opinion where he thought the NY Times was on the political spectrum. Rather replied "Middle of the road"... Goldberg was understandably floored. I wish he would just shut up & go away.

In American politics I would say Thomas Jefferson gets the nod.

Per Wikipedia he had rheumatic fever as a child. This disqualified him from service once it was discovered.

Take it for what it is worth.
