Throughout most of my adult life , my political views regarding our military involvement in other lands has leaned towards "let them solve their own problems , American blood shouldn't spill for people who don't even understand the sacrifices".

But ....

I'm conflicted these days. I see things from multiple angles. I do think we have to do something sometimes , but we need to be consistent in our philosophy and that could lead to tremendous investment of resources and lives. I just put myself in the position of Commander and Chief and I ask myself , could I stomach watching people attacked by their own government and do nothing ? I realize the implications of getting involved and the long term ramifications often can't be fully known , but how can we turn our back when this plays out for the world to see ?

Evil has to be confronted intelligently and consistently and without fear.

Did we do the right thing ? I can't help but think yes.
More to come ?
Maybe ....but something had to be done .

I'm conflicted , but my gut says we have to stand up and strike back. We just have to.

What we need is a rotating lead for events like this.

Start with the US. Yeah, we get to skip a couple of turns.

Great Britain is next in line. Then France. Germany. Japan, Australia, etc.

Once it's your turn, you are on duty for the next needed action.

I'm tired of it always being us.

Man , I know what you sayin and I have felt the same as you, but ain't nobody got the guts Americans have. Nobody handles the shitstorm like we do.
Maybe it's our burden to bear?

I don't know anymore, man. I hate it always being us, I do .

I just can't fathom how people don't want to do anything to help.
It's not the child's fault they were born in a shite storm of a country. We think we're better than them? The only thing that we have is we were lucky enough to be born in America.

Even under Trump, it's still the same old establishment agenda.

Who could have seen that coming?

Study history, especially the post WWII era. SOMEBODY has got to stand up and protect the victims of totalitarianism and tyranny. The United States, despite what you've heard from the political Left, has freed more men from oppression than any nation on earth.

Our government doesn't help the people in its own country who need it, and you're going to try to convince me that we're halfway around the globe policing the world to help those folks?

You can't possibly be this naive....you can't be.

O.K. but what happens when the totalitarianism and tyranny is your own government? Then what?

I doubt you care but do you understand that your constant condescending posts are not doing a damn thing to help whatever agenda you want advanced?

I mean, you aren't dumb. You have to see that. But yet, you continue to ridicule.

You'd make a terrible leader of your own cult. You'd eventually be the only member. What fun is that?

Also a good question and one that hinges on moral relativity...no easy answers.

People in our country aren't being gassed.

We have plenty of our own problems right here at home to solve and there are plenty of capable countries closer and with more to lose than America

What tires me are:

The proxy nature of conflict. There are times when my instincts tell me to cut off the head of the nearest snake, in this case, Iran.

The ebb and flow of our foreign policy. Our national leadership turns over every four years yet we deal with regimes of mullahs, dictators, despots....has the potential to work against us.

Those being said, I am very comfortable with engaging Russia via Iran and China via North Korea

This is why it's always us.

Hopefully you're tired of the spending as well.

The problem in the Middle East is that there is tyranny and oppression amongst many government and non-government entities. There is no clear-cut "good side". Genocide has been going on in Syria for years. Two days ago, the US Govt basically said "we don't object to Assad ruling Syria". And now this. We've been caught up in the schizophrenia.

Of course I'm tired of the spending.

10% cut across all programs is where I would start.
