can we forget about slavery too?

I say yea. It's about time. If we want to forget all the bad events in our country's history, let's forget about slavery too. Why not?

There's an old adage: "Win a war, and it will be celebrated for 100 years, but lose a war and it will be remembered for 1000"

No, white man. You are supposed to forget about it but not so much so that you don't send in your reparations and feel guilt for something your ancestors did.

If we forget about slavery, does this mean that we do away with reparations, black only colleges, black month, and all social programs that help blacks out? Does this mean we'll actually be equal?

I'm not a statue hater, honestly couldn't care, but I feel there's a difference between trying to erase history and not trying to memorialize the negative parts of it.

Yes and remove all references to it from the National Black Museum in Washington. Being reminded of its brutality offends me.

I don't think anyone is demanding we "forget the Civil War happened." Mist people just want to remove memorials that celebrate the actions of those who tried to tear the county apart. I could certainly support memorials that identify significant battlefields and recognize both Union and CSA foot soldiers.

The people calling for the removal of these statues aren't doing this because said statues are of Confederates. They're removing the statues because the men were slaveholders or racists. Look at the posts of many on this board who have said we shouldn't celebrate men who thought it was ok to own other people. We are trying to impose 21st century morals on 18th and 19th century men who, despite their faults, were some of the most enlightened men the world had ever seen.

Why does taking down a statue = forgetting history? Has Nazi Germany been erased from history since their symbols / statues were removed in Germany?

The best reminders of Nazi rule, the concentration camps themselves, weren't torn down or removed. They were left standing to remind people of their history.

Statues aren't about remembering someone. That's what history books are for and no one wan't the Confederacy erased from history books. These monuments are about honoring people. That's the important difference and you shouldn't be surprised that people have a problem with honoring these people.

Not a bad strategy, that would be one way of blowing up part of the Progs end game that includes reparations.
