I'm not trying to take anyone's guns away. I'm asking a simple question that you REFUSE to answer. Because you don't have a reasonable one. We are two anonymous people having a conversation on a message board.

What purpose does one have for owning an AR-15?

Sure. Because I want one.

The answer is: I have no clue. Any number of reasons, I guess.

My question which you REFUSE to answer: why does it matter?

You don't get to refuse my question, then demand I answer yours. That isn't how a conversation works dickhead.

You ask a question based upon the premise that need is an appropriate limitation on gun ownership. I reject that premise as nowhere in the constituion is need described.

Actually, I would assert that the 2nd Amendment does explicitly speak to need. Of course, it doesn't do so in a way that would help the argument of those seeking to ban any particular gun, as I see it.

*Edited cause I quoted the wrong part.

That's a start. Why do you want one? Because they look cool? Because it makes your dick hard? Because you feel like more of a man? Meanwhile other people are buying them and killing folks when you don't have a practical reason for owning one. I've shot an AR-15 a few times. It's fun. Had a great time doing it each time. But what is the purpose of civilians owning them? Again, I am not advocating we outlaw them. I'm just asking questions to better understand your viewpoint.

That's not a real answer, but I respect it a hell of a lot more than the dodgers above

The real answer for me is that I don't want to give government total control regardless of who is in the WH.

People don't just arbitrarily want things. You want things for a reason.

Just gonna quote myself here:

I am lost on why you are focusing on just the AR-15. Are you really meaning to attack semi-autos?

Semi-automatics are nice when you do not have to take your eye off the target, good for hunting quick small animals or large packs (feral hogs in Texas)

I didn't bring up the AR-15. Someone else did. The conversation pivoted at that point. I'm still just trying to get a simple question answered.

If you want to know the constitutional reason, you should read up in why Jefferson wanted the 2nd Amendment included.

You're still not answering my question. I own a gun. I believe in the 2nd amendment. I'm just trying to get my question answered.

On a side note, if you have a link to some good reading material on why Jefferson wanted the 2nd amendment, I actually would be interested in learning more about the topic. Please share.

Well in my case it's for defensive purposes. After being in the military for 12 years now, it's the weapon I'm most comfortable with, have fired the most, and that I've been trained on the most for CQB. Ready-up drills are a bitch.

But that's irrelevant. If Bubba wants to geardo his AR-15 out masturbate with it on a daily basis...it's none of my fricking business. Or yours.

OK, I did not know why that particular one.

I think it is too slippery of a slope to ban a gun based off appearance, does not make sense to me.

I would support a ban on the bump stock, but not AR-15s. There is no need to fire 100 rounds in 10 seconds while hunting or defending your home.

I appreciate you answering my question. My brother and cousin both own AR-15s. I've seen first hand that they are responsible gun owners and I don't think it's fair for people like you and people like them to be penalized because of the actions of others. I do have an issue with people who go out and buy a gun like an AR-15 to masturbate with. And I don't mean that literally. The people that buy one just for the sake of having one because it makes them think they are cool. That's where I have an issue.
