That is kind of the point and our left leaning people have responded in their mightier than thou responses.

Mass killings will not go away if you removed every gun in the world. Those killings would become more gruesome in the way people are killed.

So a nutbag bent on killing as many people as possible, won't because there are no guns?

No one wants to take your guns. There are zero people trying to take your hunting rifles. There are zero people trying to take your handguns. There might be a few calling for shotguns, but frick em?

Well that's patently false.

Nobody wants to force private business or churches to do anything. It's just two people getting married.

Interesting choice of words there.

An AR-15 isn't a rifle?

So your response is that a one-time nerve gas attack 20+ years ago was a direct function of gun laws?

erm, wtf? So it being 22 years ago makes my argument against yours irrelevant? I mentioned about guns, I am only responding to you thinking that these things never happen in those countries.

So that has nothing to do with this topic. But I'll bite. Religious people who feel uncomfortable with gays often use religion as an excuse to persecute those people. Which is hypocritical because that actually goes against their faith. The government is protecting the rights of those who are being discriminated against.

What does hunting...or you, for that matter, have to do with it?

Just imagine if he would have used a vehicle alone or a vehicle strapped with a bomb? Now we are mourning thousands instead of 59. Common sense tells you that banning guns won't do a damn thing in preventing massacres like this.

Ah. My apologies. You were simply responding to the OPs hypothetical and assuming a gun ban would be effective. Your response is perfectly reasonable then.

I mistakenly thought you were taking the absurd position that the gun ban would be effective so it would be relevant to discuss gun crimes in those island nations. I feel silly. Sorry for attributing that crazy argument to you.
No worries. Clearly, if the thread had been "if they take the guns, how many more/less killings will there be", then it might have been interesting.

Why not? They're great varmint rifles.

Now back to the original subject...are you saying people are calling to ban AR-15s? Is an AR-15 not a gun?

Doesn't that kind of refute your "no one is wanting to take your guns" argument?

What other reason would you need to own a rifle?

I agree with some reservations. e.g. in the US, 2/3 of gun deaths are suicides. I really do wonder how much lower that number would be in a world with 0 guns, as I imagine a good deal of suicides are impulsive, and guns are the easiest thing to be impulsive with. And Japan - a culture with essentially 0 guns - has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. But what is the most common method? Is it "more gruesome"? I think both sides have dogma and talking points which give no room for the incredible complexity of the issue.
