Assume reagan is alive and wouldn't be very old.

If reagan decided to run for senate or governorship in california, and clinton the same in arkansas, could either of them win in 2017, considering how much the states have changed?

I tihnk clinton would win in arkansas if he ran as a very conservative democrat.

I think no matter how he ran, reagan would get clobbered in california.

Arkansas has changed ideologically but not demographically. Therefore, if you adjust your ideology, you can win.

California has changed massively demographically, so it matters much more what your political affiliation is if you decide to run. There are people in california now that were not there during reagan's time that won't even consider voting gop.

True, but Hillary has negative charisma, is more liberal, and was running on the heels of a disastrous (for flyover country) D administration.

Clinton most definitely. He's a smooth motherfricker and more fiscally conservative than any democrat in history.

1990s Clinton would be a right wing extremist. Current Clinton has no chance I. Arkansas

Reagan would be hitler incarnate.

I dunno about that. He wasn't a cultural warrior as governor. But you have to be a far left nutjob on social issues to win there now.

Clinton was a master at being whatever he had to be.

People forget how liberal clinton was in 1992 and how he was well on his way to being a one termer until the republican revolution of 94 saved his sorry arse.

No he's not. He lost his Congress and had to work with Newt and a Republican dominated Congress. People give Bill way too much credit.

Because Newt forced him to be just that.

Bill Clinton owes his successful presidency to the GOAT Speaker in Newt.

There's no way under the sun any GOP candidate can win statewide in Cali. The Golden State is going widdershins to the direction of the other 49- it's actually becoming MORE liberal and Democratic.

Until 2016, it was thought impossible that a national Democrat could carry Orange County. Hillary blew that supposition apart, bigly.

I'm not sure Clinton could win Arkansas. We've gone pretty damned red.

That said, our last governor was a Democrat and we legalized medical weed.

There's still a lot of liberalism here, although most of it is of the Southern Democrat variety. Our unemployment and entitlements have been pretty generous until very recently.

We have a high minimum wage and still make it easier to be broke and lazy than most of our neighbors.
