PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been going to courthouses and arresting people in America illegally, sparking outrage from prosecutors and attorneys. They worry such tactic will discourage undocumented immigrants from appearing in court to testify as witnesses for prosecutors.

quote:

Criminal defense lawyer Octavio Chaidez said his client is among those taken into custody by ICE agents, who arrested him at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Pasadena. He said he had just finished a criminal court appearance with his client when four agents swooped in, confirmed his name and took his client away. “It was very shocking because it occurred inside of a courthouse, and the reason for the detention had nothing to do with that proceeding,” recalled Chaidez, who would not say if his client has a criminal history.

The threat of deportation erodes the trust built in the non-English speaking community to persuade them to come out of the shadows and help solve crimes, Chaidez said.

ICE officials said they do so only when all other options have been exhausted.

Good to see ICE doing their job

They'd better post Agents at the back doors...and be ready to search under the Robes of Judges.

THIs reminds me of time recently spent in the DMV. For an hour I watched several people go to the counter, get told their license is suspended until they pay X dollars, they leave, get in their cars, and drive away.

Why aren't the cops there writing tickets or making arrests?

I can't fault someone for wanting a better life and sneaking in, especially if you can't afford the fees for citizenship. However, it's still illegal and it's breaking the law.

If you break a law you should be prosecuted/deported. If it's a law we aren't to enforce, then i guess these laws should have been amended or repealed. Laws are there to follow...they are not a suggestion. I am pleased to see these laws enforced for the first time in a long time.

Come to America....but do it legally. I don't get a free ride, why should immigrants?

No. They were expecting to just be granted instant citizenship, including full pardons and full rights because they vote Democrat.

Every story like this, true or not, helps reduce illegal immigration by discouraging it altogether.

The more the media has seizures over it, the better for us on the right.

I mean ICE could roll up to the gathering of day laborers and pick up a whole bunch of them, then drive somewhere else and check their papers. If they are legal then give them $100 for their time and deport the rest. it would be cold hearted but effective.

It would but you know what would be even more effective? Going to construction sites halting ALL work for two days. Check everyone's papers and if they find illegal workers take them away and fine the shite out of the company. Not just the subcontractor but the main company as well. I guarantee they will stop coming here if there is no work.
