re: I would like gay marriage to be legalized.... but....

I'm not against networks showing it... because gay people are a fact of life.

I'm against them pushing it as something that is "good". Like going out of their way to promote the lifestyle...

So to summarize your position, you're for legalizing marriage but ew, gross. Is that accurate?

Doesn't make it right. I love my brothers, but not in a gay way.

Gays can be gay, get married, do whatever... I don't care. I just don't like how tv tries to promote a gay lifestyle as being good and wholesome and you are an a-hole if you don't like it.

he point of this is not because gays want to be married (let them have civil unions), its that the liberals want to continue to destroy the family unit.

I'll take it one step further and say that they want to destroy and demonize people of faith. One of the most important founding principles of this country was freedom from religious persecution. I can't help but feel the end goal is to demonize and ultimately use gay marriage as a tool to persecute churches as hate groups no matter the denomination unless they allow gay marriage in their church.

Uh, yeah. You should be free to do whatever the hell you want as far as relationships go. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

they can have all the civil unions they want...just leave marriage alone
Exactly. Marriage implies something that same-sex relationships just cannot deliver. Civil unions should give all the material benefits these "couples" say they are looking for. They may "love" each other, have their hands and other body parts all over each other, they may share the same bed and house and all that. But a man and a man (or a woman and a woman) simply cannot be "married" in the truest sense of the word.

So...should networks also not show that (or should they not have shown that when it was still VERY taboo) so as not to offend my Dad and grandmother's sensibilities on the matter?

This doesn't gross me out at all:

They aren't shoving it your face and saying you have to accept it. Producers are simply starting to recognize that this is a normal part of society now.

re: I would like gay marriage to be legalized.... but....
1. Marriage should not have any bearing on the state. There should be no laws dependent upon persons being married nor should their be any benefits or penalties based on that condition.

2. Marriage should be purely a religious ceremony between consenting adults and their religious leaders. Nothing the state need bother itself with. If you can find a church to marry you, go ahead and get married if you want. Who cares?

3. Community property should be established via a different contract that allows the shared use and compilation of assets that is non-descriminative. Basically, this would fulfill all of the legal roles of marriage while having the added benefit of being able to be entered into by anyone of legal consenting age.

4. Abolish the income tax and death tax via the FAIR Tax Act removing most of the government interests in marriage status.

I agree. My thought have always been that marriage was started by the church or religion. Then adopted by gov't. So remove marriage from gov't, as far as they are concerned a marriage would ve a legal union that anyone can have with anyone. Marriage would then be a religious union Of course there are people on both sides who would still piss and moan.

If this happened it would be very interesting to see how the argument for gay marriage changes. I feel their true motives would come out, no pun intended.

I'm a cup-half-full kind of guy: seeing two girls kissing and hugging most certainly does NOT gross me out.

I'm not sure you can articulate the difference you're attempting to draw here...but I'm willing to hear what you consider to be the difference.

Perhaps it is like obscenity, hard to define but you know it when you see it
