hat do you think the chances are that medical marijuana would get serious consideration?
Honestly, I expect it in the next four years.
Marijuana legalization is the real answer, but too many morons exist for that to be possible. But hopefully a REAL MM law will pass for y'all in Alabama. Here is Texas, the government gave a solid middle finger last session when it gave us our "medical marijuana" law. It's so restrictive and bureaucratic that it'll likely help nobody, and that was the clear intent. Lawmakers can pat themselves on the back and claim to be "compassionate" without actually being compassionate. And nobody in the press questioned them, so it worked.

This is the kind of closed minded response OP will have to deal with. This is why the ruinous drug war continues to no end.
That the peddlers of death and despair should be rewarded?

Not with that defeatist, assumptive attitude.
I said good luck you dick.
Until a particular age group dies off in this state it won't do shite.
Sure, plant seeds for change but be in it for the long haul. Don't be a flash in the pan, look at me.
Set in for change or frick off.

Well, I hope you're right on that. Keep fighting the good fight.

Jesus man. Relax. I have spent a decade researching and publishing drug policy. I ain't giving up tomorrow. Or the next day. Or next month. Or next year.

We have dry and wet counties in this state.
The old money won't relinquish alcohol control and you think they are going to give up narcotic control?
Like I said. Be in it for the long haul. 30+ years.

Stricter penalties on MDs that over prescribe... computer system that tracks px, counter dr hopping for drugs.

I'd start with jacking the penalties for distribution up, way up. Over a certain threshold, death.
After all, they're peddling death.
I would just start randomly testing everyone in the drug force in this country. One positive test and we string you up in the town square. This menace needs to be eradicated one way or the other.

That sounds like a great idea, more government regulation into our medical practices!! I mean, it's not like it's ever been done before... right...? what could go wrong?!?!?

With your stupidity you won't get shite accomplished.
You can't handle minute confrontation on a message board.
Good luck with convincing old money grandma with an OD'd innocent grandson to pull her political influence away from her #1 cause.
You're the last person needed on a council to try to get weed legalized in this state.
You are as emotionally invested as she is. She just has more money and influence than you.

In Alabama one of our biggest problems is pain pill addiction... So let's just start offing doctors!

This is something that needs to be understood for prevalently.
Drugs will never be eradicated.
Ever.
Every society (save for the Eskimos) has had access to "mind altering plants". And, there has been those amongst them that have abused them. Sad, but true.
So, with respect to mankind, "drugs" are here to stay. How we deal with them and the users/abusers will say loads about the society we participate in.
Fun fact #3 of my self-centered thread:
AL spends roughly 16k per prisoner
AL spends roughly 10k per pupil
Until those numbers are inversed, we will continue to laug behind the nation in quality of life.

Ridiculous comparison. We don't provide for every need for students.
The state of Alabama gives a large per pupil sum. Local governments are the school funding problem in our state.
