Crooked mfers. I wouldn't trust those idiots to secure my fricking lunch box.

Georgia’s secretary of state has claimed the Department of Homeland Security tried to breach his office’s firewall and has issued a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson asking for an explanation. Brian Kemp issued a letter to Johnson on Thursday after the state’s third-party cybersecurity provider detected an IP address from the agency’s Southwest D.C. office trying to penetrate the state’s firewall. According to the letter, the attempt was unsuccessful.
quote:
“At no time has my office agreed to or permitted DHS to conduct penetration testing or security scans of our network,” Kemp wrote in the letter, which was also sent to the state’s federal representatives and senators. “Moreover, your department has not contacted my office since this unsuccessful incident to alert us of any security event that would require testing or scanning of our network. This is especially odd and concerning since I serve on the Election Cyber Security Working Group that your office created.”
quote:
“The Department of Homeland Security has received Secretary Kemp’s letter,” a DHS spokesperson told CyberScoop. “We are looking into the matter. DHS takes the trust of our public and private sector partners seriously, and we will respond to Secretary Kemp directly.”

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson
I wonder how many moles are in government in general. I predict that Trump is going to have to weather a lot of shitbombs due to the people who've been installed over the last 8 years.

For information purposes, can someone tell me if this is possible:
Could an entity (perhaps a foreign government) try to "hack" into Georgia's election system but make it look like the hack was coming from the Department of Homeland Security?
Is that possible?
And if so, maybe they didn't actually intend to hack. Maybe it was their intention to be found in order to frame the DHS. Or, possibly use it as a diversion to cover their tracks.

It's possible but it would not be easy. (Or should I say it shouldn't be easy. Who knows with these morons...)

No. IP Address can not be mimicked. Or at least that's how I understand it.

You wouldn't have to do that you would just need some sort of backdoor into that computer.
If the DHS has those types of issues though we have a lot to worry about.

In a world where things like stuxnet exist anything is possible though.

Or even hacking by changing fan speeds and heat...

The internet is a scary place.

Am I the only one that saw "Georgia" in the headline elsewhere and assumed it was the country?

Not the least bit surprised.

Georgia wasn't the only one's to tell HS to frick off when it came to 'save them' from hackers prior to the election.
One state having this is odd.
If two states show this from the same addresses then there's something REALLY REALLY REALLY wrong here. More than that and well...
Stop buying into this Russia bullshite. That did not happen. It's going to end up being the lefts 'birther' thing in the end.

Sure they can, its called spoofing. Its an indespensable tool for hackers. I do not suspect that is the case here. but then again, its hard to imagine anyone who actually knows what they are doing being that stupid not to use tor.
The question is did they trace the traffic back to the source network? You would imagine a foreign hacker wouldnt take the risk of initiating an attack from within DHS. You would expect that traffic to move through proxies. The fact that SoS is very direct in its accusation leads me to believe they didn't see the tell-tale signs of foreign hacking. Someone at DHS is a moron.

That.
And if this is isolated to Georgia, there's your answer.
If it's not...
This is going to be huge.
