I thought Jindal was a creative accountant and Edwards was going to change thing

Well it appears the budget for last year was out of balance (remember we were told the tax increases would balance the budget). Now Edwards is going to make cuts for this year to pay for last year, he's going to tap into some "pots of money", and he's looking at refinancing our debt again.
How can this be? We were told that Jindal put us in a bad spot by using one time money, accounting tricks, and that if we'd just have these big tax increases we would be fine. Well revenues didn't come in as expected proving raising taxes reduces overall spending and there's a big hole for last year and for this year too.
And of course higher ed is going to take a hit. We can't cut the film industry, or remove tax breaks for industry.

Louisiana college campuses that escaped cuts after years of financial slashing are once again on the chopping block, with Gov. John Bel Edwards planning an $18 million reduction to higher education to help close a state budget deficit.
quote:
Edwards is proposing to reshuffle some financing, tap into available pots of money and make cuts. The largest piece of the plan involves delaying $152 million in payments to health providers that care for Medicaid patients. The payments will be shifted into the next fiscal year.
quote:
The deficit is from the budget year that ended June 30, when state income fell below projections. Further shortfalls are expected in the current 2016-17 budget year, because tax collections and other sources of state revenue aren’t coming in as expected.

Louisiana refinanced debt earlier this year to generate $82 million in quick cash for the budget. The decision added long-term costs to state debt repayment. At the time, the state’s financial adviser recommended against doing the same maneuver again.

Slick Eddie II is to busy trying to explain why he hired someone to run the tax assessor office that has not paid his property taxes in 30 years.
Its Jindals fault

Dude, you obviously don't pay attention. The Republicans in the legislature blocked the increases and cuts required to balance the budget. Edwards called them back into special session and they still blocked it. If you want a balanced budget in Louisiana, you have to call your Republican representatives and demand that they do it.

or not implement a huge Medicaid expansion your first day or so in office.

Thanks for clearing that up, I knew it couldn't be a Democrat's fault after all he's just the governor of La.
And FWIW, if we can still provide TOPS to average students and we can still subsidize the film industry to the tune of 180 million dollars per year and we can still provide enormous tax breaks to industry then we don't need to raise taxes any higher.

This is why Vitter should've been Governor.
He was ready to go after everything in this state that Jindal didn't despite his lip service talk to small government and fiscal responsibility and Vitter didn't give a shite about higher office LA Gov was it for him.
But of course, it's also why he lost because too many people calling themselves a republican didn't want him actually making the government smaller and getting people off the dole.

Republicans who voted for JBE should be carrying a red scarlet letter on their shoulders as far as I'm concerned.
frick their feelings and slighted morality about VItter making questionable choices, they're too expensive and big job killers.

We as a state will no longer reward the successful with free tuition for college, but will use that money towards bringing up the I don't give a fricks!!!!! If we give them enough money they will magically fix themselves and will give back to the community as a whole!!!!

The problem with TOPS is we can't afford it, and it rewards average students as well as the elite students.

Gee, tax revenue isn't what we thought it would be from a new tax?
Not like Arthur Laffer hasn't done a whole fricking curve showing the difference between expected tax revenue and actual tax revenue.
Next time you raise taxes, don't fricking spend it all before it shows up.
