I ask again, how was Dukes of Hazzard a hit TV show if the Battle Flag is so bad?

The show aired in the early 1980's and was a hit for CBS. From what I can remember and read there weren't protests and boycotts because of the show.
Now mind you, almost everything negative associated with the flag happened long before the General Lee took to the airwaves.
-The War was long, long over
- Civil Rights Act was in place for many years
- Jim Crow was over
- Flags had been on Southern statehouses for years
- Shithead racist groups were very quickly fading from the scene
Given that flag hasn't really been involved in any situation of consequence since the early 80's, what has happened in the interim that makes the flag soooo offensive now?

don't have the viewership numbers, but i'd have to see how Dukes of Hazzard did in viewership among different demographics...

We weren't sensitive little pussies back then.
Plus it was probably only popular in the South and maybe Midwest. Before the South was invaded by sensitive pussies.

People weren't so offended at the drop of a hat back then. There are things we said and did in junior high and high school in the early-mid Eighties that would get you arrested today. And I'm damn sure glad there were no cell phones or social media back then. Everything slowly made it's way through the grapevine back then.

Although it wasn't that long ago, the simple truth of the matter is, America wasn't so butt hurt about every damn thing under the sun.

The '70's is a racist decade. Duh.

Because it wasn't thrown in the faces of everyone nationally until the 90's with the advent of the internet, forums, and more TV coverage.
It was then that people saw the ugliness with how it was used. Every white nationalist group and individual was waving it very very publicly.

Beyond this issue..Before social media, blindly criticizing someone's culture and belief system to their face would get you punched in the head or worse.

I don't remember seeing that much about these scattered groups and I grew up in the South in the 1990's.

bullshite, I've seen more rebel flag shite in the last 20 years 100 times more than I did my first 20 years of living.
It's called stupid arse kids looking to be cool and edgy.

American Institutions weren't completely committed to Cultural Marxism in 1979, and now they are. In 40 years harmless and hokey entertainment became impure Thought and Speech Crime. Plus, it was fine to make fun of the South with redneck caricatures, because who was from The South anyhow except for a bunch of hillbilly simpletons? Remember, this was before Blue and Red America, when Orange County California was the most reliably Republican county in America and Reagan was a few years away from taking 49 states. We weren't divided on ideological lines, we were divided by regional differences then. And Hollywood imagined a South with confederate flags, illiterate townsfolk, corrupt sheriffs and dudes in Confederate flag cars.

Meanwhile in the Great State of Alabama Confederate Memorial Day was held today. All state offices were closed in Observance.

The pussification of America had not yet occurred.
