I am voting "no" on amendments 1 & 2 and here is why

We have too many special property tax exemptions already.
We need to do away with our exemptions, lower the taxes so the government does not collect more taxes and then we let the bureaucrats put more taxes to the voters.
Amendment 2 in particular is a heart tugging amendment. It exempts the survivors of first responders killed from property tax. Who can be against those people?? Certainly not me but I am against giving them an exemption on property taxes. First responders are for the most part government employees---let's make sure their survivors are taken care of financially but let's don't exclude those people from their obligations as citizens.
I oppose both of these measures simply because I stand against the continued increase in exemptions. Every time we exempt a group from property tax the remaining property tax payers have to pay more. It's not right.

I agree. I hate this type of shite too.
Are you voting yes on the other thing? I thought it was crap as well.

Do you hate the families of fallen first responders? And sleazy developers?

Man... you do love you some taxes.

Its simple
The federal government should provide for the general defense of the nation
And that is it
Federal income tax should be abolished

where do I favor taxes in this thread??? Neither of these amendments reduce the taxes the government collects.

Why do you ask such a stupid question? Can you not read my OP?

Speaking of which, what time do the polls open tomorrow?

I might vote for that one. Will it prevent the Governor or the leges from robbing tax streams for roads and bridges in the future?

I thought amendment 2 was to expand the exemptions that they already get.

I vote no across the board 99% of the time. I think the last yes I gave was allowing higher ed institutions tuition and fee authority which I think failed anyway.

It will put up another barrier, but will not stop a determined legislature/governor.
So either vote no, it does not do enough or
yes, it's better than what we have now.

I have voted NO for every exemption to property taxes since I could vote, but it seems like they always pass. I have voted NO for every increase in property tax, yet they seem to pass. This has led me to this conclusion; too many people don't pay property taxes and really don't care if it goes up or the base shrinks (which makes the tax go up). I wish we would eliminate every property tax deduction including the sacred homeowner exemption, then we might actually get people who vote on property taxes based on the merits of the proposal.

You follow state politics closely, I believe. What are your thoughts on the treasurer's race?

May be the best taxpayer advocate in the legislature.
