I am the Department of Education: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

This is a strange graph. What did they mean by this? Are they saying we need more funding for education to improve?

We had a world class education system that was cheap as hell that produced quality and productive citizens before Jimmy Carter pushed his boondoggle DOE on us.
One of Ronald Reagan's biggest mistakes was that he did not do enough to kill it.

It goes back further than Carter to LBJ and his not-so-"Great Society"

A lot of standardized tests are norm-referenced with a set mean and standard deviation, so even if students increase their skills, the renorming will reflect a trend of 0.
For example, intelligence has risen (Flynn Effect), but even though the mean is always been 100, a 100 today reflects a level of intelligence greater than 50 years ago.

So it costs more to go to school in 2010 than 1970? Groundbreaking material you have there.

From their site, it looks like SAT scores about being linked.
The SAT is not norm referenced to my knowledge.

The biggest problem with our education system is that fact that it hasn't changed in 150 years and applies a single, standardized method of learning upon individuals who best learn in a variety of ways.

Parents are 100% of the problem.
If you are raised in a home environment where there is no parental involvement and the parent could care less, you will do worst in school than the student who has parents who care and are involved with their students education.
As a teacher, I see this all of the time. The parent dosnt have to be rich to have a good student. It is all about parental involvement and how much the parent is involved with their students education and other school activities.
