activities this week

We've got coffee and chats, lawn games, 'adulting', petting puppies.
BTW, I have no idea what 'playing cornhole' means. I also don't know what a 'Henna Tattoo' is.

I drove my car through the quad and started taking everything out of my trunk.

A well-read individual such as yourself should be able to Google it though LINK.

It's a very common game.

We had a "safe-zone" on the second floor of our library. They had puppies, coloring books and puzzles to help people cope with finals.

I don't need any of that shite to cope with finals. I just pop in a video game.

What a pathetic generation. Finals aren't that damned stressful if you prepare for them and know your shite. My boss doesn't offer me destressors and petting zoos when I have seemingly impossible deadlines. I just grab an extra cup of coffee and stay late until I get the shite done.

No wonder they need therapy dogs and stuffed animals after an election.

I agree totally. However, I had a psychology professor who taught us dream interpretation. He said that we often dream about stressful situations that possibly could come up IRL but never do. The classic example was that actors have nightmares that they go on stage and totally forget their lines.

As a student I often had dreams like walking into class and hearing the prof say "OK, it's the end of the semester you all need to come up and put your term papers on my desk."
I then said "What term paper?"

Oh what I would give to have a time machine to load these frickers on and be able to send their asses into Iwo Jima on an Amtrac.

In Athens we found our own ways of destressing that didn't require the school.

The "unprepared" student dream is a pretty common one. Mine usually involves not studying for a test. I think it means you have something unfinished that your mind is trying to remind you of.

Carolina has a beat up car out front of the student union, and let you swing at it with a sledge hammer for a few bucks. It was a fundraiser for whales with cancer or something.

But we didn't have any of this other silly shite.

I don't see what the problem is. In today's environment, getting a degree means nothing, (outside of engineering) as only the top 10-20% (assuming you're not a minority) get decent jobs when they graduate. That makes exams much much much more important than they were even 10 years ago. Scholarship money is also tied to them, and with the rising costs of tuition, losing scholarship money means you either drop out of school or take on crushing debt.

There's nothing wrong with having respurces available for kids to blow off some steam. Many universities had problems of students getting into booze and narcotics during exams and overdosing or committing suicide. Having stress relievers is just one easy way to combat this. So what if they let students take a 20 minute study break to visit with a dog or play washers? That doesn't make them pussys, it makes them resourceful, social, and fun. Heck, some years we'd do a flash rave or run a naked mile.

Seriously, old dudes, get over yourselves and let yourself have a little fun every now and then. It's just kids being kids finding a way to make a stressful time where literally their entire future depends on 1 test, a little more fun. Besides, these events are usually staffed by volunteers and cost the university nothing or very little to put on, and are paid for with fees the students themselves voted for.
