How is it even possible that a party that controls everything is playing defense?

In 2009, democrats were like the Oregon ducks on capital hill. Law after law after law.

Now, it's like moving in quicksand. Nothing happening

GOPe doesn't know how to do it

There are at least a few Reps that want shite done the right way whereas the Dems will pass anyfrickingthing.

There is a large portion of the party that doesn't buy into blind stupidity because someone decided to put an "R" in front of their name.

I think it's indicative on how the each side is predisposed to think. Democrats have a more collectivist mindset, whereas Republicans focus more on independence and self-interest. Therefore, democrats will fall in for the greater good (of the party), and individual republicans are more likely to stand by their principles.

I'll give them this, the left is much better at fighting and mobilizing than the right which is probably part of the reason why the GOP has failed us so hard the last decade. They yield to the left's criticisms and take advice from their enemies. Trump is hopefully teaching them how to win again by showing them you should ignore their inane screechings and stick up for you and your constituents values.

Also, most of the media, Hollywood, and big business side with the left's PC identity politics which is a powerful force that goes a long way in influencing people.

Unlike the Dems who march in step with what their leadership dictates, the Republican party is very diverse and free thinking. This make it harder to get things done quickly but it will happen, count on it.

The MSM has a large part to do with it, especially in shaping public perception.

Democrats and the media won't let the Russia conspiracy theories about Trump go even when there's still no evidence nearly 6 months after the election. And there are certain elements inside the GOP that are only egging this on because they hate Trump.

It's bogging the party down.

Obama's greatest achievement was the precision in which he pickled every corner of government beaurocracy with his toadies. They have the media, hollywood, universities, and now leakers and saboteurs in every bureau in DC and on benches across the USA.

That's how.

1. Trump was helped by hackers who work for russia.

We are still dealing with it. More came out about manafort.

2. They have rabid fans.

3. They didnt work on the trump dont care bill. They dont have a bill that their own senators can vote for. Lack of preparation.

You cant expect to just make senators vote yes just because trump insists and threatens. He had to pretend he is just kidding about primarying the house members who cant vote for it. He is used to firing people. The members are used to discussing, cutting deals.

It's because they don't want to actually be responsible for anything. If they pass legislation, it may backfire and cost them their jobs.

It's much easier to draw up repeal and replace bills when there's zero chance of them being passed.

What we saw in the years prior to now was the political equivalent of "Hold me back bro!"

There are lots of eGOP folks who would like to see Trump out of office ASAP, but most certainly after one term.

Its called managing a diverse coalition, why do you guys think it took so long to pass the ACA in the first place?

Edited to add: the ACHA is dead, McConnell announced if it passes he'll bring a "xeroxed copy" to a vote in the Senate by the end of next week- if that's the case he has no intention of having the bill pass as it would currently struggle to get 40 votes much less 50.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Trump is not a likable guy. He's hurled insults in all directions and tried hard to humiliate his opponents in the primaries. I think a lot of that stuff sticks with folks. Imagine if Ronald Reagan had the congressional majority like Trump has. Reagan was likable. Trump can be an insufferable prick.

You mean like when many of the Dems said they had not read the ACA? Or when Pelosi said we have to pass the bill before you can see what's in the bill?

Yeah, they always want the underdog role so they don't ever have to be responsible to get anything done. As long as Obama was in office, they could vote to repeal Obamacare and send it to be vetoed and they could tell the voters, "well, at least we tried". Now, nothing can get done. I hope they remember what happened to their former democrat colleagues in congress, because it is going to happen to them if they don't get their act together.
